Who starts the pre-recorded bongos for Sympathy?

Does Charlie have a button that he pushes?

Is this another task that Chuck takes care of from his organ/piano?

Using your yardstick (tasteful arrangement with guitars carrying the song), they would have to ban about 3/4 of their regulars from the setlist, just think of Miss You or Let's Spend The Night Together.

An alternative would be to deliver a decent version of it instead of the ridiculous karaoke number they have turned that song into.

No songs should be dropped. Just rotate them and everybody will live happily ever after.

Sympathy is one of the show highlights for me. It's also one of the main highlights for the vast majority of the audience. On that basis, don't drop it. OK so Keith doesn't get the solo right more often than not, but the song is just great - the whole stadium doing woo woos even before the music kicks in and the big flames going in to the air.... Atmosphere is what it's about.

If you were to take a petition out on the field when the stones play, the audience would want to drop some of the less well known songs like Sway, CYHMK and She's So Cold.

I wish they'd drop Miss You. They did for a few shows but they really go through the bloody motions on this one now. Why no Street Fighting Man or Gimme Shelter? They are much more important.

I'd prefer GS but Miss You is one of their biggest selling singles ever.

I might suggest you watch the Radio City March 2006 dvd, before you think that they cannot play this song anymore. That performance was the most dynamic thing I have seen the Stones do in a long time - it was surreal.

I believe it. theres a short clip of sympathy from the beacon show on the shine a light trailer. after seeing it I'm intrigued.

one of the great qualities of Sympathy is its sense of menace - that has been sorely missing since the steel wheels tour. this song has suffered the most from the "vegas" treatment . . .

oh yeah, and ablett, the twickers crowd chanting "woo hoo" is just another reason for the stones to drop it!

>> I really like Austin sympathy. Theres a footage of this
kid dancing way in the back of the field. and then it cuts
back to mick doing this dance where Hes on his tip toes but
hunched over. yeah, I know that has nothing to do with the
music, but I think its really cool.<<

I agree, ryanpow. Very cool.

Nikki Bong.... you got it soooo wrong! There's nothing wrong with kids having fun after a great gig singing the 'woo's' of sympathy.
It aint 1969 any more!

You go to a stones gig for a good time......
