Comparing Keith 1998/2007
Posted by: Hanns Rainsch ()

Just watched the Bremen 1998 DVD and I must say that KR on the DVD has not much to do with KR as seen on the 2007 Euro leg.
He looked about 50 years younger than today and his performance was just great.
He looked so cool, razorsharp and skinny back then.
He really got old between No Security and Licks, and perhaps a little bit more with his Monkey Man affair.
This is not supposed to be some Keith-bashing, it's just my impression regarding his look and behaviour on stage, I still love him, though.

Ever tried doin the same with yourself, Hanns, between 98 & 07?
At times I watch myself holidayin' in Tenerife in 98...
There are sure ambiguous feelings one has to deal with in such operation...

i agree...if you compare his aging process with the other bandmembers it`s shocking. It`s not just in the looks but in the whole performance

yes, I agree...try this...line up some pictures of yourself on a table... ages 1, 10, 20, 30, 40 etc and I gaurantee you'll see big differences in your appearance between them all. It's called LIFE. However...your guitar playing ability may remain the same.

I look much older than in 1998 as well, but still much younger than almost 31, although I drink and smoke ;-)

Why threads like this??

I know there is an inherent contradiction in what I'm saying here, but it does only a thread make if people dignify it with answers ;-)

Comparing myself (49 years old male) I must say that I ran 10 km in approximately 50 minutes in 1998 and today I need more than one hour. We all get old. Everyone every day!

You don't have to go that far back with Keith. If you compare last year (autuum 2006) with this year he looks like someone who have suffered a stroke.

Well I'm at rest with it. His ageing goes in sudden steps, it always has. You say in 97 he looked better but don't forget his grey skinny head of '97 was a daunting difference with his looks in '95. Of course '07 had me worried, but than again his looks change in steps and his playing has not been inventing anymore since BtoB, and I mean inventing the way he does Flip the Switch on No Security. He really couldn't do that anymore.

The only thing that really worries me is that bloody Wanna Hold You. Not that it sounds really bad, but I wonder why noone informs him that this '07 version is so pale compared to 1998 that people who saw both tours must think he's become so forgetful in the meantime he forgot to plug in his guitar. Bring back the bloody telecaster, cut the standard Berry solo and do some licks elsewhere instead. Because this version is nothing special and it gets even the incidental visitor to wonder: "WTF?"!

I think it was a big difference between 95 and 98. In 95 he ran around and really worked the stage, in 98 he was much more relaxed, just walking around. I haven't noticed any big changes in his energy-level since 98.

Maybe that could be the heroin he said he ws dabbling with. Why he didnt run around. Yeah, I bet its the heroin.
