I had that song on a 45. You had to flip the record over to hear the second half.

I forgot about that!

Flipping the 45 for the second half of the song
was also true for "Sky Pilot" by the Animals, I think.
I'm tryin to remember others.. Steppenwolf or Doors maybe?

In-a Gadda-da-Vida maybe? Or maybe that would require both sides of a ten-inch!

Has anyone mentioned what
"The day the music died" refers to?
If I'm not mistaken it's refering
to the death of Buddy Holly

For what that's worth

And now for something completely different:

Well, there seems to be very little love on this board for American Pie, the song and recording.

At least the term "American Pie" was recycled for a new generation as the title of a deliciously vulgar movie featuring a teen-ager having relations with a pie and being caught by his dad.

I wonder what Don McLean thought about that movie.

I think Vincent is actually his best song but it is so sad. Haven't heard his version of And I Love You So but I love the Perry Como version of that song.

I still like American Pie but used to like it a lot more when I was a kid. I remember when I was a kid in the seventees the song was a lot more popular. One of the New York radio stations had a greatest songs countdown and American Pie was number one. It's not quite as popular now.

I never thought that verse to be a smackdown of the Stones. Just a song, and a pretty good one at that.
