'08-More Stones?

I have a feeling that the stones WILL tour after the last 02 show on August 26th. I believe that they will return to the U.S. for tour of ARENAS (and select stadiums). I have heard from a few UNRELIABLE sources that there are early talks of returning to the U.S. in the spring/summer of '08. By unreliable I don't mean it is indeed false information, it just means its not Mick Jagger or Michael Cohl. Granted, this depends on the health of the band. Seems as if Charlie is enjoying himself, Ronnie goes along for the ride, Keith will die touring, and Mick is Mick. '08, we will see the stones again.

Yeah, sure. I've heard that too. They've recorded a new album that's supposed to be their best since Some Girls. Apparently they had a band meeting and agreed that they've been creatively stale since 1989, so they've all really dug deep this time. Plus they've got Wyman AND Taylor back in the band, and they've even reworked an old Brian Jones demo tape too.

And their 2008 tour will be exclusively in small theatres (maximum 3000 seaters) because they want to reconnect with their fans. No fireworks. No light displays. No inflatables. Prices will be a very reasonable $19.78. You'd be a fool to miss it.

Actually some people I think of as nearly infallible have whispered to me Mark Fischer is already desiging a new arena stage. Nothing else for 2007, but plans are germinating for arena tour (where no one has said)sometime next year. Barring helath probelms, I think it will happen.

I think all 4 of the guys know that age is limiting the future and that their future is now as a touring live band. They love what they are doing, it is finacially a hard incentive to turn down, and I think any long term off the road will make it too hard for them to start over.

At $500 for a nosebleed seat no doubt.

Hmm... The Stones finally getting the idea of Dylan's 'Never Ending Tour'..

I also have the feeling that they don't dare to stop the old motor running now. It will take too much time and trouble to start again. And as far as the reports of their recent shows go, the old engine is doing very fine at the moment!

That makes it quite likely to happen then...
Perhaps not in Europe, though? I know of a arena with a cap of ~18000 in Vienna, but I don't know about the other European countries - someone said we don't have that many arenas in Europe? Btw, Erik - I hope your girlfriend enjoyed her first show (and you too, of course)!

Why, just some loose rumours...don't see it happening

It's more than a loose rumor if both Erik and Kahoosier have heard it - they do know some people that should know.

Well, we'll have to wait and see then.
Let me put it this way then: I hope they decide to take a wellearned break and a good think about the future, if any.
There's been quite a lot of troubles this summer, concerts that didn't sell out and Keith that havn't been able to deliver any good shows until a couple of weeks ago.
Mind you the show I saw in Copenhagen were just great...but I still think they need quite a break.

What has happened since then?

Didn't Keith say in a recent interview that he'll be playing for the next 12 months?

Sounds great to me. I have also heard the rumours that Kahoosier mentioned. I think it's very possible, an arena tour, no stadiums. An 18 month gap between USA fall 2006 and summer 2008 would be sufficient, especially with the venues being exclusively arenas.

I don't know why some people think it is so unlikely, and why some people actually don't seem to want them to tour...

I said I didnt think they would - based on a personal hunch and some gossip I've heard.

With this band and at this stage, band dynamics and individual members' wishes tend to change. Of course, at this stage in their lives, and with health matters being as they are its hard for them to plan VERY far ahead with any degree of certainty.

What talk I've heard in recent days has come from the same sources as kahoosier, mr jimmy and erikjjf I would imagine. If it's true, it would appear that whilst the ABB tour will definitely not extend beyond 26th August, they intend to do some touring in 2008.

Yep, it will not be the ABB tour. Maybe "shine a light 2008"... Or just "Rolling Stones North American tour 2008". There ya go!

I'm of the belief that the primary reason for pushing back the Shine A Light movie til April is probably to coincide with a 2008 tour of North America. Bjornulf reported a few weeks back that he's heard recently rumors of touring in 2008 growing much stronger than they were before. You got to remember that he heard of this last fall as well, but that now it seems to be stronger.

The offical press statement for the delay in releasing Shine A Light stated it was to allow the Stones more time to promote the film. It's a very silly statement if you accept it as stated, since Paramount clearly knew that the Stones would be tied up touring until late August months ago. Besides, how much promotion is needed for a concert film that will not do massive business at the box office? Reportedly premieres in London and New York had already been scheduled for September and are now cancelled. Besides the publicity from the premieres, the only other promotion the Stones would really need to do for this movie would be some interviews on tv that they could do within 1 week.

There's clearly something more causing this completed film to be pushed back 7 months and in my opinion , it is to give the Stones an opportunity to launch a new tour of North America and perhaps South America and Asia behind a new product. Instead of returning for yet another leg of the A Bigger Bang tour, the Shine A Light tour would help promote the film and the film would help promote the tour. I believe that's the proper promotional setup that's being alluded to in the press release for which the Stones are not able to do at this time.

We can only hope!

I would not be suprised to see the stones touring north america next year. Late spring / early summer. Arena's.

In my opinion it's not gonna happen.
2 years of touring is enough for these guys.
Keith needs to rest and recover from his
accident in the palm tree from which he
obviously still is having problems with.

I guess the next tour will be (if there os one more)
in 2009 or 2010. Otherwise they will broadcast world wide, a special
concert from one of clubs back from the early days in London
as a farewell and finalconcert.

To celebrate the 50 th anniversary this would be an option that
make us all happy. A 3 hour long club gig with songs from the past,
blues songs just like in the old days.

Been Stoned since 1964 and still am!
