Can you understand every word in the RS songs?

Dear native speakers,
Please answer the question that has been torturing me for many long long years. Tell me the truth: can you understand EVERY word Mick sings? Or even you sometimes find some words (or sentences) unintelligible.
Thank you.

When I got my PC one of the first things I did was to look up some lyrics to Stones songs . I sat here listening to songs and thinking , " Is that what he said " ?

Believe me you're not alone .

Check this site . Lots of laughs here .

smile: of course the words on the internet are not all that reliable either, including the "official" versions.
(on the BB dvd Bonnie Raitt is clearly using a teleprompter with the "official" lyrics to Shine a Light
which has some of my favourite lines different from what Mick sings on the album/in concert.)

hmmm, that's true - but at least at times it can give you a clue as to what they might be saying smiling smiley

ps. plus i think personally i tend focus much more on the music than the lyrics - sometimes i love a song and don't really think to be curious about ALL the lyrics. on the other hand, it's a good idea to hear the lyrics sometimes - for example - when "lost in the supermarket" by the clash came out, the music didn't sound interesting to me at all - only after i bothered to read the lyrics did it become one of my favorite songs - i mean, it's real poetry !

yeah - anyway lyrics aren't immutable any more than the music is.
for example some of the renditions of LSTNT in Japan last year were quite creative:
"i'm just describin baby" - LoFL :E

Thank you, you all sound a little bit soothing. I remember my despair when I read the words for I'm Going Down. I was sure the first words were "Hey babe, f**k off...". It was a shock when I discovered they were "what's wrong"... You can laugh but I did not feel like laughing. I was sure I would never be able to understand a true London accent.

No, I often can't make out exactly what Mick is singing.

And when I can, I don't always understand what he means.

Lyric sites don't always help. I was rather surprised to see that according to the usually reliable timeisonourside, Mick sings "You're here, digging again" in She Smiled Sweetly. If that isn't really "begin again" I'll eat my hat!

Rip This Joint was difficult when I first bought the LP: some live versions easier to understand strangely. All those cities, some of which I hadn't heard of in 1972!

I was a kid when Jumping Jack Flash came out as a single. It was years before I had any idea what the song's lyrics really were.

Whoopi Goldberg was in a movie titled "Jumping Jack Flash" a few years back. I remember a scene where Whoopi was doing exactly what I had done years before. She was listening over and over to JJF, trying to decifer Mick's words.

Mick has always had seemed to often deliberately make the words in the songs hard to understand. Maybe as an artist he knows that that is part of what causes a listener to want to hear a song again... and listen even closer, and hang on every word he sang.
