We had the cleaner for the mobile display as souvenir accompanying DVDs.
As far as they are concerned, anything is worth??

>> i'm so glad Learning the Game was preserved so you can see it ...
i know it's very special to you, in addition to being a wonderful version of the song <<

thank you Texas Fan - it sure is totally splendid!
now if someone can just tell me what Tele Keith's playing on Shine a Light with Bonnie -
at first it looks spotted like a cow, but i guess it's actually some sort of fancy "filigree" work or something?
a gift, i would guess - and there must be a story to go with it. does anyone know??

The simple reason for this is: The Stones are not as much interested in their own history as some fans might be. Mick hates nostalgia, he always pretends not to know which album certain songs are from ("Chuck, which album is this from....?")
And as long as the Stones are touring and releasing new material, they don't see any reason to dig up stuff from their past. That will only happen, when they aren't working as a group anymore or when they're dead.

The overdubs in some songs is awful.Especially with Mick when he is singing.Especially in the B stage.

Interesting to hear that because in my abb concert they didnt play ANY song of the abb album, and on the ABB DVD, almost ALL the songs are from their past. A lot of the songs in brussels 73 have is 2007 equivalent on ABB DVD (and some of then several times), well out of the songs from the album they were touting after... So maybe they are not so interested in the new material, arent they?

Greetings.

I haven't ploughed through this whole thread and I haven't watched the whole Austin show yet......I have seen the whole Rio show though and probably 90% of disc three. I think the Rio show is the best of the two (almost) complete shows. Better than Austin. I may be the only person who thinks so but that's just my personal preference.

But I'm quite pleased with the set in general.

It's mostly great. A little too similar to FF as mentioned by others, but definetly worth buying! Loved the Charlie-section on the documentary dvd. And also I was blown away by the sound on the Copacabana. Raw guitars and heavy drums! As a band, they were better on the Bridges tour, but they are still capable of rocking hard!

P.S: Does anybody know how or where I could get a copy of 25x5? Had it on VHS, but the tape is worn out.

In my original post I was refering to releasing stuff from their past (i.e. concerts from 72/73, anthology etc. on CD/DVD) and not to their back catalogue.
Their own songs are not nostalgia rather than their working tools. They fill them with life and play them every second night. That's why they are still doing it at all in the first place. Songs need to "grow up" (Keith quote), so maybe they will play more ABB songs in ten years time just as they do now with some Voodoo Lounge tunes (they played Love Is Strong yesterday and You Got Me Rocking frequently on this tour).

Received it from Amazon in the UK 2 days ago. I have only watched Disc 1 but really enjoyed it. Tonight I am watching Disc 1 again and choosing selected tracks such as Learning the Game, T & A, Streets of Love.

The atmosphere at Austin is great and although there are plenty of repeats from FF - what the hell - it's still the STONES and I never get sick of hearing and seeing them.

In this day and age of modern technology, isn't everything going to be overdubbed, edited or whatever.

Looking forward to watching discs 2,3 and 4.

It's going to be a Rolling Stones weekend for me (accompanied by the odd glass or 3 of Cabernet Sauvignon.

Just finished watching most of it.

Disc One- Austin- fantastic concert. Highlights for me are Shes so cold (great guitar sound), Bob Willis and personal favourite-Learning the Game- had to repeat that 4 times before I finished the rest of the concert.
My only gripe is that Keith is far to down in the mix-from what I can hear he plays great

Disc Two- Rio- better guitar mix-A great concert-hard to say which one is better

Disc Three- Particularly like Argentina- what an insane crowd!!

Disc Four- Great documentary on the tour although we all know show 116 was not the last!

Charlies documentary- who would believe that he would have the longest slot!

Overall it lives up to the hype.

I have also realised what a fantastic guitarist Ronnie is who appears to be higher in the mix than Keith which is historically unusual.

Austin show is the business, and the rio documentary is great as well. Best song on it? well possibly the 'Can't be satisified ' with Mick on slide, its brilliant. The dvd is quality, alright disc three from round the world is a little tiresome, why they didnt just show the whole argentina show instead i dnt know, but overall its quality.
'Its not that hard when you love it, its not that hard'.

surely a 4-disc DVD from the same tour costing £40 would only "interest" hardcore fans?

Release a 4-disc set of archive material for the same price as this one and I'll bet you anything you like it'll sell better.

I dont understand this concern about it being too uncommercial. The Stones are a popular band with a large fanbase. There are lots of other acts who are still working and who can put stuff into the public domain from their archives easily enough (Springsteen, Young, Dylan etc)

Seriously - if they leave this sort of release too much longer, with the ageing fanbase that they have, it'll get to the stage where there wont be enough of them around to care.
