What if the Stones had toured in 1984?

I have often wondered what a great tour this could have been if the lads had carried on their North American tours i.e. 1969,72,75,78,81....84.

This would have been massive. What with the Olympics, 80's economic boom etc.

Was it Mick's solo aspirations that stopped it from happening or that the Glimmer Twins started to hate each other, or both?

That could have been a short and final tour. Thank god they waited to 89 and gave us at least five round the world tours.

There was a REALLY old topic about this.

It had fictional reviews of the `84 tour in it.

Does anyone remember?!!

Woud a REWIND tour have eclipsed The Jacksons' VICTORY tour? Would Mick and Michael have shown up at each other's shows to sing "State of Shock" together? I genuinely like the UNDERCOVER album and first saw the Stones live in '81, but I think we can be grateful such a tour never happened. I wouldn't want to hear JJF with Chuck providing synthesized phasing effects and a drum machine overshadowing Charlie. I wouldn't want to know what a live version of "Too Much Blood" would sound like.

If the Stones had toured in 1984, tickets would have been $18.00.

If they toured that year, they should have done some sort of product Tie-in with George Orwell's 1984. Im not sure how it would work, Im not the marketing guy.

Coulda made for one more rugged rock tour like 81/82. Since it was when Jagger tour live that sort of became the format for future Stones shows.

I agree with that - there's been no turning back since '89 in terms of "game plan" for a Stones show. I've always said that 81/82 represented the last true "rock and roll" show the stones put on. I do agree that had they toured prior to Jagger's '88 tour (which proved to be the prototype for all future stones tours/shows) it would have been more in the mold of 81/82....
