How's Ronnie?
Posted by: UGot2Rollme ()

reports of Ronnie drinking wine in Montenegro and speculation that he would be tipping the bottle in celebration of his gypsy heritage in Romania had me a little concerned...

How's his playing been in E. Europe?

Reason I ask is we know there's a direct correlation between his boozing and playing (witness Dusseldorf disaster last year), and through all reports in beginning of this tour (including my personal witness in Paris), he's been fabulous.

Ronnie B. Goode!

He’s fine but needs to say off the crayons and pastels.

There is also a direct correlation between boozing and venues (Düsseldorf last year?).

There was no Düsseldorf show last year!

His eyes are gone and I'm pretty sure he wears a wig.

Ronnie is perfect. I see his eyes at every show. Don't spend too muchy time on internet only. It will make you into a nerd completely. You will not know the difference of Harry Potter, Madonna and a real Stones show. Close your computer. Go out and watch the sky. There is a real world out there with real people.

I don't know if I agree with that.
If he likes doing it as a hobby, then he should keep doing it.
He just shouldn't necessarily show them to anyone.

He's Ronnie as we know him. He loves to interact with the crowd, he loves to throw picks and if we are lucky, he plays the guitar...and when we are even more lucky he even thinks about what to play.

In Bucharest I was front row, Ronnie's side, having him in front of me all evening long. Excellent show, with good guitar and great audience communication. Yes, and a lot of picks, thank you Ronnie. Very focused on his work, also on Keith. During Sympathy, Keith started the solo far away, on the extreme right side of the stage; suddenly he shutted up; Ronnie was ready, changed some signs with Chuck, a second later Keith started playing again so they both relaxed; Ronnie throw his pick and smiled...
That evening Ronnie was maybe... 90%, not because he had a problem but because Keith was the star. But then again... You Got The Silver... should I write more ?

Very true. The internet will turn us all to mush. Limit your time spent on it talk to people in person. (I'll log back in later to see what's going down).

sorry, I was wrong about the venue - it was Cologne that Ronnie had perhaps his worst night of the tour, by his own account he stopped drinking after that show for at least 3 months..

here's part of review from that show by J. Lauer:

I've never seen such an poor playing by Ronnie during my 16 Stones concert years experience! Really, he isn't able to play any kind of solo. Unfortunately he doesn't seem to be focused on the show (like on the licks tour) and his playing was lousy and totally out of the mix yesterday night

Haven´t seen this version of Gimme Shelter from 1975 before, Ronnie´s on fire. His solo is very influenced by Mick Taylor, but he surely does it his way.

Yeah ronnie was really bad in cologne 2006. But next show in Paris he was excellent !!!

This year is ronnie's year. He is so good this tour.

Bjornulf and anyone else...I was kidding. I think Ronnie's fine from what I've heard of the tour. I was mocking the endless posts about Keith's eyes being gone and Mick wearing a wig. Get a @#$%& clue.

Of course Mick doesn't wear a wig, but there have been posts here and on other Stones sites claiming he does. I first heard this ridiculous story in the mid-70s along with the equally insane story they have roadies playing their instruments backstage or below the stage and just mime playing. I was making fun of the doom and gloom sort of posts that turn up from time to time, but people (including BV) took me seriously. I thought my post was ridiculous enough that anyone could tell it was a joke. I meant to raise a smile and amuse people, not get insulted.

Yes, maybe 10 people left from the catwalk. Noticed the security guy who tried to steal a pick and then had to forwarded it to the audience

That security guy was dumb. One of the picks Ronnie threw me fell exactly near him and didnt want to lift it. Then the fireman person took it and gave it to someone else angry smiley
Luckily Ronnie threw me another one at the end of Brown Sugar and kept his eyes on the guard till he gave it to me grinning smiley

The disaster was in Collogne 2006. Ronnie was playing horrible. Because of this show some friends of mine (hard fans over the years) will not go to any show this year. Maybe now is the time the band is fading away...
