Say, GeorgeLicks--Oh Great One--where did Bryan Ferry's new CD place on the U. S. charts and how many copies did it sell? I'm guessing about 900-1000 copies at the most, right? Sad.

Well, I liked about two thirds of "Frantic" very much, and "Mamouna" really grew on me with its dense swirling textures and rhythms after several listens - whereas "Avalon" often just seems bland. So I hope it's good.

I bought it.

It's a very good, but not great, CD.

However, the versions of "Positively 4th Street" and "Gates of Eden" are stunningly great, absolutely killer.

It debuted at #117 with 6,600 copies sold.

The dvd has the original video he did for Hard Rain from THESE FOOLISH THINGS as well as a performance of "Don't Think Twice", which is from FRANTIC.

Bryan Ferry has one of the worst Press Agents in the world, if he has one at all. Nobody in the US knows he exists and you'll never hear his music on the radio or television. You pretty much have to discover him by accident here. Pitiful. He's quite talented, always has a great band and puts on a good performance.

Went to see him at Repton School here in England and as above postings have mentioned, I have nothing but the upmost respect for him and his band - he has a veritable who's who of talent (Chris Spedding on Guitar, Andy Newmark on Drums, Guy Pratt on Bass..) and some awe inspiring new young talent too (Ollie Thompson [a 19 year old prodigy] and Leo Abrahams. He is a consumate entertainer too, and the whole band looked as though they really were having a good time..

Beyond that, his work with Roxy holds a unique position of its own and whilst his solo work often fell flat, he was always a fantastic, detached, tragi-romantic lyricist... viz "Mother of Pearl", "Love Me Madly Again" and too many to mention here..

I totally agree with Duane, why the hell isnt he more publicised in the States!

Thank you very much for that info. I can't get over how few albums sell these days. It's really the end of the line for records and record stores. What saddens me is that music will be SO disposable from now on. No more "discovering" your mom's jazz, rock or r'n b collections in a closet somewhere. No more famous album covers.

He supports fox hunting along with his son, so people lose interest in the UK.

From what Ive seen at the two gigs of his Ive been too this year - both packed to the rafters/field - with people jumping and shouting cheering and laughing and having a bloody good time, this is complete and utter shite

Only a minority care about Hunting in this country and I certainly don't think it would affect Bryan Ferry popularity....
