No, not same song. This was written by Chris Cornell. The guitar & bass are tuned down, it almost sounds like a dirge. I like it, though.

Here's the lyrics:

4th of July

Shower in the dark day
Clean sparks driving down
Cool in the waterway
Where the baptized drown
Naked in the cold sun
Breathing life like fire
Thought I was the only one
But that was just a lie

Cause I heard it in the wind
And I saw it in the sky
And I thought it was the end
And I thought it was the 4th of july

Pale in the flare light
The scared light cracks & disappears
And leads the scorched ones here
And everywhere no one cares
The fire is spreading
And no one wants to speak about it
Down in the hole
Jesus tries to crack a smile
Beneath another shovel load

And I heard it in the wind
And I saw it in the sky
And I thought it was the end
And I thought it was the 4th of july

Now Im in control
Now Im in the fall out
Once asleep but now I stand
And I still remember
Your sweet everything
Light a roman candle
And hold it in your hand

Cause I heard it in the wind
And I saw it in the sky
And I thought it was the end
And I thought it was the 4th of july

Bongster, that would mean the timing would be off, right? Like, the events don't fit in with the time slot or period or zone or whatever kinda thing.... OK, I get it, thanks.....(I feel like such a dumb ass, I mean, I finally got my GED last year.... I KNOW this stuff usually, most of the time)

I saw the Stones onstage for the 1st time 32 years ago today......and what a crazy, lovely time it was!!

I might have to pull out that boot and listen....

Skelter, you didn't know about Francis Scott Key and Fort McHenry and the "Star Spangled Banner"? Shame on you.

Jeez, man, I learned it in grade school ( back in the 60s).

I learned later that the Brits did indeed have primitive rockets back then (they were called Congreve rockets).

Moie for stone-relics: sorry to get OT, but "Superunknown" is a fantastic CD. This includes songs like the title track, "Spoonman", "Fell On Black Days" and "Black Hole Sun". A classic hard rock recording from a premier Seattle band.

My personal rule for today: listen only to American artists. No Stones.

Alright -- 4th of July party in full swing.

Followed up "Superunknown" with "Down on the Upside", Soundgarden's farewell album. "Pretty Noose" -- love it. "Ty Cobb" -- for this baseball fan, it's funny as hell. "Bootcamp" -- the last call. Too bad.

As a postscript -- Chris Cornell went solo and Matt Cameron is now with Pearl Jam. Don't known what happened to Kim Thayil and Ben Shepherd.

Yes, as we have assimilated them into our own unique identity. What is the blues and rock n' roll and jazz but a product of this melting pot? You can't deny that, Nikki. Whom did the Stones try to emulate in their early days, hmm? We mongrel Americans.

In honor of the Fourth of July, I'm going to continue shunning Elton John's song "Pinky," which shames today's holiday by mentioning it in the key line of one of the most treacly songs in EJ's and Bernie Taupin's careers.

Yeah, one of the most important figures in world history- George Steinbrenner. Oh yeah and also America.

Great holiday. Everyone enjoy the BBQ, fireworks and the Twilight Zone marathon on Sci-Fi and be careful not to blow your fingers off if you are one of those do it yourself fireworks people.

Bruce Springsteen answered this years ago: "No Surrender", from the "Born in the USA" LP.

My trump card: lyrics to Chuck Berry's "Back In The USA"

Oh well, oh well, I feel so good today,
We touched ground on an international runway
Jet propelled back home, from over the seas to the USA

New York, Los Angeles, oh, how I yearned for you
Detroit, Chicago, Chattanooga, Baton Rouge
Let alone just to be at my home back in ol St. Lou.

Did I miss the skyscrapers, did I miss the long freeway?
From the coast of California to the shores of the Delaware Bay
You can bet your life I did, till I got back in the USA

Looking hard for a drive-in, searching for a corner cafe
Where hamburgers sizzle on an open grill night and day
Yeah, and a juke-box jumping with records like in the USA

Well, Im so glad Im livin in the USA.
Yes. Im so glad Im livin in the USA
Anything you want, we got right here in the USA

Damn you, Helter, you hide your e-mail. I don't know how you old you are, but despite our shortcomings, this is a pretty good place to live.

Do you live on your own? Do you have a job? Own a car? Have to pay utility bills?

Wise of him to hide his e-mail, even I recieved a "What the @#$%& have you got against America"-mail - and I don't have anything against you - well of course some of you - like Bon Jovi and @#$%&

I don't know who he lives with- can't imagine anyone that would want to live with Helter but imho he is the biggest whiner in the world.
