Jagger's next solo
Posted by: tippy2toes ()

Is it really true Mick is doing a solo after this tour? Or is this just another rumor off FM radio. What happened to the India/Thailand tour, is this after Europe?

And is it likely that he will do some live shows promoting the album?

He didn't do much live for Goddess did he?

Listen to my new album on www.bowemusic.nl!

From Rocks Off:

MICK RECORDS TWO NEWS SONGS FORM HIS NEW ALBUM "THE BEST OF .. ".

He also recorded an EPK promotional during his stay in Barcelona
Rhino Records, a division of Warner will launch in October an album "The Best of Mick Jagger" with his singles, b-sides and the best of his four albums
A total of THREE new songs will be new including the two recently recorded, one of them is is "very powerful" and will be a perfect single for September to promote the album.
A series of interviews conducted in Barcelona for the above mentioned EPK promotional of the album.

here's another "rumor" i heard from a hollywood reporter on my local
classic rock (fm) station. This one seems to lose a lot of credibility...
because we know Mick & Chris have gigged together and socialize together...

anyway...the reporter (Mike Evans) said that Mick and Chris Jagger are "not very
close"...but that "Mick gives Chris $50,000/month".

first of all...from everything we've seen...mick & chris get along fine...
and if Mick wants to spread the wealth...GREAT!

re: the "best of mick jagger" cd....erikjjf's ROCKS OFF post
sounds realistic.

IORR............but I like it!

I'm glad it will be a comp, and that Rhino is doing it. 3 new ones sounds about right, and if smartly compiled it could be a very good overview of his solo work. I believe, outside specific promo shows, that the only real MJ 'tour' was the Far East when Primitive Cool (C plus, his worst imo) came out in '87-88

Well I may be in the minority here but I would rather have a new studio album than a comp. I already have most of his good solo stuff so why spend 15 bucks just for a few songs.

Someone mentioned b sides. Does anyone know the total number of songs it will have that are not on any other Jagger Solo album? I guess this will include new songs he has written and b sides from his singles.

So does this mean we're not getting an actual brand-new solo album from Mick?

Maybe both? First a best of and then say 3 moths later a new one? He certainly writes enough I think.

Great news for fans of the Stones. Mick is a worker who enjoys his craft. He could retire and spend his millions on room service and travel, but he'd rather work. I'm damn glad of it, too. I would rather hear new Stones' product, but Jagger cannot instill his workaholic traits on three other people. I would go see a solo Jagger show in a minute.

Yeah, _right_...

There's a record company out there that wants to issue TWO sure-to-stiff Jagger solo albums nearly simultaneously, into this kind of a slow CD sales market. If you believe that, I have a bridge in Brooklyn to sell you.

That's kinda weird that Jagger will be putting something out the exact same time The Stones are... well, maybe doing it when there's a theater release is a better move than when the DVD/CD of SHINE A LIGHT comes out (which is suppose to be during the big Oct/Nov Christmas sales period) we'll see what the plan is I guess....

Generally, I'm not a friend of official compilation albums, BUT:

"Dancing In the Streets", Mick's duet with David Bowie, needs a new home on a CD. The inclusion of that song, plus 3 new tracks and a few B-sides, could make me want to get the package.

---
On the other hand, I could do without Mick's Chieftains collaboration on there, because the Chieftains album that this is on "Long Black Veil", is essential listening anyway, because it also has "The Rocky Road To Dublin" with the Rolling Stones, with a lead vocal by Kevin Conneff of the Chieftains.

I don't know any Mick solo B-sides, except for "Blue" which I got on the CD single. But regarding how much this tune is usually being praised on this board, it's somewehat likely to be included, right?
---

It surprises me that the rumor says it's going to be out on Rhino Records, which is affiliated to Warner Bros., because that would definitely indicate an end to the Promopub/EMI-Virgin relationship.

can live without the last two, but I hope it includes that marvellous version of 'Long Black veil' with The Chieftains and the A and B-side of that 'Ruthless People' single. 'I'm Ringing' is certainly a song that deserves to be better known.

Maybe they'll also include his duet of "Dont look back" with Peter Tosh and maybe 'Memo from turner', or is that asking too much?

Re: Jagger's next solo

Some other odds and ends for a Jagger solo, although I suspect that licensing stray tracks for a compilation could be a nightmare:

- Memo From Turner
- Uh . . . State of Shock
- Dancing in the Streets (though I think it's represented on a Bowie compilation)
- Blue (Goddess B-side)
- Blind Leading the Blind
- Old Habits Die Hard
- Remixes/extended versions of Say You Will, Just Another Night and, um, Let's Work
- Wild Colonial Boy

I certainly can envision a standard edition with the bona fide best songs from his solo output, complemented by a disc with random tracks never before on CD or outtakes or demos

And just as Ronnie's compilation included Everything Is Turning to Gold and Black Limousine, maybe tack on a token Stones song that is a de facto Jagger solo.

And on a not-entirely-serious note: You're So Vain with Carly's vocals buried or deleted and Jagger's vocals mixed way up.

not necessarily, because She's The Boss, Primitive Cool and Wandering Spirit are already on Warner. so this could mean that his new Rhino Best Of concentrates on the years 1985-1993 as Goddess "belongs" to Virgin.

Pity it's not a completely new album...
