no not LSD - He is stuck in a time warp in the ANGULAR Penatonic Box playing the same damm thing without having any ability to improvise his playing.

play that guitar boy

That's on b-stage, innit?
I'm still for "bad sound on stage" - the P.A. blasting from one side reaching the b-stage with a delay, probably Keith's guitar too loud in the monitor-mix.
trying to figure out what you're hearing and what not, will stop you from moving around.
there's no indication that he's drunk or on drugs.
no swagger or foolish moving to be seen.

OpenG is not so wrong here. He should focus more on playing rythm instead of noodling the same all the time for all songs. He even stops at the same note every time. I still love them. And on a good night he's still fine, Ronnie is playing constantly well.

That's true...I don't think Keith had been drinking much

We are in real trouble with this tour if Ron Wood has to come to the rescue and
bail Keith out. Oh No that would be awful and a realization that the time is near to due the lounge act on piano .

Satisfaction just sounded distorted. Wanna Hold You was the worry for me. Why doesn't Keith play guitar anymore!

Ron's had his bad periods - noteably EU 03 - & so has Keith...I have a review of the Stones '76 Knebworth show in which the reviewer says KR was nearly as inanimate as Bill, and seemingly out of it, leading to the worried 'is this the end?' handwringing...I've wrung (ringed? wringed?) my own hands about Charlie (cancer scare, is he leaving), Ron & Keith in the last couple years (Mick in the early 80s). I imagine post brain-surgery, post mom's death, various other medical problems (rheumatoid arthritis?), & with an addictive disposition, Keith might be on any combo of meds or simply drinking more than he can handle on a given night, to self medicate - or perhaps feeling bad because he's on LESS of something he's used to...Nevertheless, he's done some excellent work both in studio (ABB & other projects) and at US shows...If he can feel medically OK, recognize too much of something might be less than it was 10-20 years ago, his spirit is pure independent Keith, who cuts an amazing albeit eccentric figure and master musician. Maybe less prolific in terms of writing. And if Wood is mostly clean, and getting on w/ Keith these days, that seems like a potentially very good dynamic.
LSD? It's been a decade for me, and I could use that sort of psychic clarification/catharsis right about now....Too bad the kids around here like to pollute everything with amphetamines etc

Donnow if its relevant, but imho Boston at ABB debut 2005 stank.

And yes, he must have had two ot three bottles too much.

We all know it by now:

How many more times do you have to twist the knife, Mathijs?

Thanks for the honest appraisal...to0 many people cant judge a show by its TRUE SONIC QUALITIES. Thats why I go....Who cares about anything BUT THE FREAKING MUSIC! We all know that they simply arent the "69" tour band that we fell in love with, but, playing this poorly does pain us.....It almost crushes me. Keith Richards was the greatest guitarist ever, period. Its just hard to see him not hit all the notes all the time---and done as Recently as Baltimore 01 Feb. 2006.

I wish the Stones the ABSOLUTE VERY BEST. I LOVE THE BAND...

Watch Knebworth on youtube and compare. Even zonked out on H Keith plays great.

IMHO it's pretty clear Keith can't hear a bloody thing up there during this small stage song. He nods back to the amp/monitor when trying to pick it up from Ronnie, as if to say 'there's nothing coming from it' or 'it's blown' or 'I can't hear it.'

Mick's "worried look" is similar to whenever the same has happened in the past with the band -- someone has lost their place or can't hear due to some snafu.

Keith's 'motionless' state looks to me like he's trying to hear/concentrate to pick up where the song is, also the reason Ronnie turns more to face him and Daryll moves in as well.

Keith's also using a wireless which could be crapping out on him.

Looking at some of the other small stage stuff from that show on YouTube, KR is spot on during HTW - probably because the main sound system is being used. He also sounds in the pocket on IORR from the small stage too.

Try this one for an earlier bit from Satisfaction:

How does KR sound on that? Something clearly drops out for him during the final part of the song, which is what the "LSD" clip is from.

I have yet to dig up a clip of It's All Over Now.

I do agree that Wanna Hold You is pretty rugged though.

And then there's this:

Thing is we all have an opinion.

Things we like or love about the stones or sometimes not. We can share here or express.

I'd never slag off another person on the board, but think it's fair to express a view if you see a bad performance that you paid money for.

Fair comment?

Keith was bad at Werchter.

My objection is that Mathijs is starting thread after thread on the same issue.

I'm sure Keef has a little Stu in 'is'ead sayin' these things.

Point taken: not a single person on this board is claiming
Keef did a good job at Werchter.

This was a little sad to watch. Keith sounds as though he had a stroke or is very drunk. Maybe the side effects from his head injury were much worse than we thought. He does seem happy though and that's enough for me. I'm with this guy 100%.

Stop putting Keith under a microscope and over analyzing him. Thanks God he and the Stones are still touring.
