Re: OT - Main act booed ???

Years ago, I went to see David Bowie's "Young Americans" concert at the Spectrum in Philadelphia. The first act was a campy vaudvillian presentation of some sort... they got booed mercilessly until they left the stage.

After the intermission, it was time for Bowie.
The lights went dark.
Before Bowie made his entrance, the band took the stage.
Imagine the audience's mass embarassment when everyone realized that Bowie's own backup band is the group that they had just been booing. They were playing a set without Bowie for the first act...

faux pas...

That was the Mike Garson band in 1974, the last leg of the DIamond Dogs, or "The Soul Tour".
So it sucked, eh ?

sucked
but I don't think people would have booed if they knew that it was Bowie's band.

I would've given my right nut to see that show (yes, the larger one)!

You would? The last leg was great, much better than the lame start, but I'd rather given some body parts for a 76 show
Diamond Dogs Tour had a pretty cool setup for the band, they were hidden behind a screen, so the audience saw nothing but Bowie - it didn't work for long, as the band kept peeking out on Bowie and the venue - but that was the idea in the beginning

The band was out and about the stage by the time I saw the DD show in September in L.A. He had given up the idea by then. They gave him a lot of crap for that.... I just think it would have been cool to see the Philly Dogs leg of the tour.

Not sure if they were both the main act cause that's the way the concert poster read but I saw the Black Crows with Oasis a few years back and not only was Oasis heavy booed but people were throwing stuff at them. I had a friend who caught the same show a few before and said the same thing happened and Oasis started swearing at the fans.
