NY Times review of Keith in Pirates
Posted by: Rip This ()

.............Forever above the fray and beside the point, Mr. Depp’s devilish buccaneer is the lightfooted device that holds the franchise together; as he sashays from battle to bar, impervious to insult and musket alike, Jack’s very narcissism is his protection. He’s an inverse superhero.

Though the film is filled with the expected special-effects wizardry, its most stunning and surreal moments are also the most peaceful: an army of crabs transporting the Black Pearl over dunes and into the ocean, and a flaming sunrise viewed through tattered seaweed sails. A disappointing cameo by Keith Richards, still alive and flaunting the look of hard-won dissipation that reportedly inspired Jack’s personal style, is in a special-effects category of its own. Perhaps he should have rented a copy of “Performance” and taken notes from Mick Jagger.

OUCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I thought he was brilliant and just right for the part. Even my ex-GF thought Keef was great and she was only waiting for the opportunity to tear him apart *lol*

From the San Francisco Chronicle:

'Pirates' takes on a lot of water in its 3rd voyage.

Not even Keith Richards can keep this dud afloat

....Keith Richards provides the movie's only pure pleasure, with a cameo as Captain Jack's father.

seeing the first two will likely only confuse you more...this film series' plots are a jumbled mess, but still fun for some I suppose.

I couldn't make heads nor tails out of it (the movie)! I am still trying to fiqure it all out, the morning after my viewing! Keith' part could of been explored more, with some action scenes alongside his son etc.

LOL!! So, this board has deteriorated into critiques of movie cameos?

What's next? "Idol" reviews?

Are lower foreheads and higher eyebrows becoming a requirement here?

I am going to see it tomorrow (that will be Friday here). I'm graduating tomorrow morning too so with all the festivities going on the afternoon will be my first chance to see it. I've really enjoyed the first two so hope the third is good, and am looking forward to Keith.

if the nytimes film critics are anywhere near the quality and credibility of their overtly corrupt "news division" in 2002 and 2003 and continually...then keith's performance is probably worthy of a supporting actor oscar...they put the whore in press whore...judy miller's war promotion and outright lying, and the editorial spin that promoted it, is just the tip of the iceberg over at that sadly delegitimized mess...

besides, tho i am not big on it personally, except for keith's cameo, this movie is critic-proof, like shrek or spiderman...it will make another billion and blow the record books sky high...

It will probably break the new record Spiderman 3 just set for opening weekend but the reviews on RottenTomatoes.com look mixed- a little more bad than good.

Disney doesn't have a good track record with regular movies- their forte is animated stuff.

Anyone going to see it should plan on being in the theatre nearly three hours- it's long.

Most reviews say he was great.
All he really had to do was be his usual "Keith Richards" character [an act in itself] and emit that odd combination of charm and menace that's always fascinated folks about him.

Yes from what I have seen Keith has gotten more good reviews than bad. It's the movie itself which seems to be not that good- more bad reviews than good.

I'll probably wait to see it on cable since it's hard to shell out ten bucks to see Keith for a few seconds and have to sit through the rest of the movie in agony.

BTW what's up with all these previews they show in theaters. I don't mind a few but it seems like they get longer and longer every time I see a movie. Pretty soon all the previews will be longer than the movie.

Going to see the film tonight. Am braced for it to be a turkey (gobble gobble!) but hoping the Keith cameo will make it worth the slog!

....yeah, I plan to see it...bad reviews be damned........in fact, if I listened to professional movie critics I would never have seen some of my favorite movies.....I ignore the movie critics and listen instead to those opinions of people I trust, and my own gut instincts

sorry, but ill wait for the Biggest Bang DVD - no wait.

i'll wait for my concerts next month to see keith on a big movie screen! winking smiley
