He doesn't interact with the audience at all, if that's what you mean. But the music's good.

A total bore, they could just as well play some of his songs in the PA.

I wouldn't go QUITE as far as "total bore", but he's a bit like Clapton with respect to interacting with the audience; namely he DOESN'T. And it DOES become annoying after a while, that's for sure.

.. and it did make sense. It´s official now!! Looking forward to him in Helsinki!!

Just bought "Astral Weeks" and have given it listening just twice. Good music, that´s all I have to say.

I saw Van once in early 90s. He was support act for Bob Dylan. He was very good, 10 times better than Bob. (Bob of early 90s, of course...)

he is totaly boring. can´t understand the Stones for that the decision. They should match them with young real rock´n´roll bands, also to get more relevance and younger crowds. Especially in scandinavia there are a lot of them. the hives, mando diao, etc.

Then again who is visiting a Stones gig for 1000 SKR or more
in order to watch Mando Diao?

Yup - we got "Hives" in 2003 in Copenhagen. The first song was sort of alright - lots of energi. The rest was just plain boring...and increasingly so!

I'll take Van The Man any day - or any of them ole' timers ;-)

"Younger crowds" arent going to pay "Stones prices" just to see a young band play a warm up for 45 minutes with a PA system at less than full power to a disinterested audience in a half-empty stadium

I have never understood the idea with warm up acts. Lousy sound, no lights, the sound man is asleep, the crowd is in the bar and everyone is just waiting for the main act. Bob Dylan never has it, Led Zeppelin never had it.

If "it" is a warm-up act, you're way wrong.

Never say never. The Raconteurs were support to some Dylan shows back 2006. [www.nme.com]

Bob Dylan has had many opening acts in the last couple of years.
Maybe not in Europe, though.

Back in the day I think it was a great idea....e.g. Stones almost singlehandedly brooke the Ike and Tina Turner revue both at home and in The USA ;-)

These days - in Denmark that is - I've never seen them with a proper band that can bite their heals - I think Van is the Man for that!! He's brilliant!!

Agree. The support acts on recent tours have been. Especially Maximo Park, which was IMO a really bad choice, but unlike past tours the show isn't sold out within hours, so I think a strong support act is needed in order to sell tix.

Maximo Park sucked in Horsens 2006.
The Hives were OK in Copenhagen 2003.
The Sea Horses was the worst ever in Copenhagen 1998.

When I saw Bowie in Horsens 2002 this band called THE WHITE STRIPES were supposed to warm up, but they cancelled and then we got some lame band from England called The Real People instead. It would've been cool to see The White Stripes before they hit it big.

One good thing about sucky warm up acts: The Stones' concert gets even better (If that's possible).

He sucked big time - and I'm a Gasolin' fan ;-) It was actually rather emberassing - only ole' Stonefree to save the day (the original guitarist in Gasolin')

But all that was forgotten when out from the wings jumped......................
....MR. Wolf!!!

J. Geils Band kicked ass that day!
