CS BLUES QUESTION
Posted by: HEILOOBAAS ()

What was the tune the little music box played in the hotel room. Robert Frank asked Bianca to wind it up. It's one of the best pieces of film I have ever seen.

Mick is pointedly ignoring her and it obviously hurts her feelings. That's why I believe it was included in the movie. She felt left out of everything. And, it betrays a certain vulnerability and diffidence we have never seen since. She just seemed to want to be noticed or touched or held.

GREAT question, I've been meaning to ask, but somehow always forget. I was in Paris last october. I found a music box store and tried every single one, looking for that sound.

No luck. I really hope someone can answer this question.

That sound was hauntingly beautiful.

Watched parts of CS Blues yesterday, because of this thread,
I think I've heard that tune elsewhere, but don't know where...maybe in a movie?

All I know is that CS-Blues (long version as posted on Hot Stuff, in the El Mocambo Club-package, the version without the strange sound-effect) is quickly becoming one of my favourite dark blues-songs. Along with Rambling On my Mind, Have You Ever Loved A Woman (both Clapton) and all those great Stones blueses of course. And De Dijk, Wat Heb Ik Al Die Tijd Gedaan? Great great great...

Keith smashing everything to pieces with those licks, in fact nothing more than single notes, all the same... ... marvellous.

Hi MCDDTLC!

To be honest, I don't know the original performer... Google mentiones Robert Johnson AND Eric clapton. Both, not together. The version I'm referring to is one that is released on Eric Clapton Story, a tv-cd (1990/1991) with a compilation of great hits:

Cocaine
Lay Down Sally
Wonderful Tonight
Crossroads
I Shot The Sheriff
Further Up The Road (LIVE)
Rambling On My Mind (Live)
Layla
Next Time You See Her
Knocking On Heaven's Door
Sunshine Of Your Love
Tulsa Time (LIVE)
Let It Grow
Steady Rollin Man
Have You Ever Loved A Woman? (LIVE)

The Rambling ON My Mind is a great and strong, dark performance, I've also heared versions and duets by clapton of the same song, that I liked less to not at all. In this version he's directing the band through a slow and long build-up to a jam, calling the next chords to play. It's very stripped and bare... I like it.

Technically, as it is a tv-cd and probably no longer for sale... I could.... no, I cannot can I?

Jelle

Edit: Even Clapton's own site says it's a Robert Johnson-song, so I guess it is not Clapton's own work...

Greetings Jelle..

The version I'm speaking of is a really fast number, they could have used Robert
Johnson's song and changed it around? They were a great southern band in the 70's, right there with Lynyrd Skynyrd or any of the others that came out of that
musical explosion of 70's southern rock & roll. Think Eric's version is more
along the lines of Robert Johnsons original..

There have been several "Ramblin'" songs in rock and blues music. "Ramblin' On My Mind" was written by Robert Johnson and many artists have covered it. Clapton has made it a bit a "signature cover" for him (much like "Further On Up The Road").

I think the Marshall Tucker Band song you're speaking of is titled simply "Ramblin". It's not a cover of the Robert Johnson song.

Is this segment on youtube?

That whole segment sticks out in the swamp and decadence of the 72 tour. It is like someone said a beautiful piece of cinema; the way they come in and rewind it. And wander around in silence; waiting it seems.

"...no longer shall you trudge 'cross my peaceful mind."

Maybe a different Beethoven tune?

Hopefully we can get a definitive answer to HEILOOBAAS' question?

In all honesty, a couple of people deserve the credit....CindyC for posting that youtube link...and aarfeld who answered the question on that link.

I always had a strange fascination with music boxes....I may be heading into NYC to pick up a music box with Anniversary Song.

I hope this doesn't lead to an obsession of collecting music boxes. LOL

Here are the lyrics to Anniversary Song:

Oh, how we danced on the night we were wed
We vowed our true love, though a word wasn't said
The world was in bloom, there were stars in the skies
Except for the few that were there in your eyes

Dear, as I held you close in my arms
Angels were singing a hymn to your charms
Two hearts gently beating, murmuring low
"Darling, I love you so"

The night seemed to fade into blossoming dawn
The sun shone anew but the dance lingered on
Could we but recall that sweet moment sublime
We'd find that our love is unaltered by time

•----- instrumental break ------

Darling, I love you so

The night seemed to fade into blossoming dawn
The sun shone anew but the dance lingered on
Could we but recall that sweet moment sublime
We'd find that our love is unaltered by time

If Im not mistaken, In the movie Caddyshack, theres this scene where the Reverend is playing Golf in a storm and he gets struck by lightning. bill murray is his caddy. Im pretty sure the melody playing in the background of that scene is the melody of "The Aniversery Song" .. if not it sounds an awful lot like it.
