Keith wears this black T-shirt "who the F*** is M. Jagger (72 tour?) does anyone know if there is a particular story behind this T shirt.

it was on the 75 tour, but i don't know where he got it - he saw someone wearing it and requisitioned it?
in related news: Ian McLagan had a "who the fvck are the New Barbarians" shirt in 79.

I would love one of those Stones Touring Pary shirts that they are all wearing in the STP book.

My understanding is, the entire road crew wore these shirts and Keith requisitioned one.

Apparently, they were inspired by the Mighty Miles Davis to whom the quote is attributed.

Yeah, cosmo, I always heard that Miles turned Mick away from his door.

To cosmoprim & Elmo Lewis:
Can you give me more information on the participation of Miles Davis?

I'm listening a lot of Miles lately and this story looks interesting...
Thanks

At a slight tangent: I believe the origin of the quote on the T-Shirt may be a paraphrase from Sonny Barger of the Hells Angels at the Altamont bash. In a moment of fury he queried "Who the F*** is Mick(y) Jagger?"

"I'll be in my basement room with a needle and a spoon."

Everyone seemed to be wearing them at Hampden last summer. I saw about 7 or 8 of them (including my own!)

Didn't pay £42 for it, though. Just went into a 'Design Your Own T-Shirt Place' and made up my own for a tenner.

cosmo may know more about this story than I do.

Apparently Mick went to Miles' house and Miles refused to come to the door or let him in while using the afore-mentioned quote.

Those people are crazy: 80 bucks for a stupid shirt. Take a black T and do it yourself. Most of the shirts in the site say "worn by Freddie Mercury", "worn by Bez" etc
BEZ! LOL What ever happened to crazy Bez?

Unfortunately, no. Quite the contrary. You know more about it than I, brother.

It's one of those things you hear from a variety of sources, but the actual story (if I ever heard an actual story - I may have heard nothing more than "Miles said that..") has faded into the recesses of my brain. Sorry.

Stanley Booth makes reference to Miles saying it in his Keith biography, but doesn't expand on the story. He basically just says: Miles once said "Who the @#$%& is Mick Jagger." Doesn't really add much to it.

I do have a T-shirt with a picture of Keith wearing the WTFIMJ shirt that I bought when I was 14 (19 GD years ago). I think that was the first time I ever saw the shirt (or read the sentiment). The story, I heard much later.

If anyone does know the full story, please share.

My wife has this shirt. When the Stone played the Tower Theatre in Philly during the licks tour, we were in the 2nd row. She wouldn't wear the shirt because she thought she would hurt Mick's feelings. Too Kind.. She did wear the shirt to a Ryan Adams gig, and he commented on it from the stage.

Jesus - there's a name I haven't heard in a while.

Chelsea, did you know the Stone Roses had their own Bez? Cressa.

I'd like to see a dancing/vibe-sending-out-ing competition between those two.

Bez. Christ almighty.

That nbeing said, I don't know who would buy a shirt simply because it had been worn by Bez. Are there Bez fans out there? I can't imagine what exactly their fandom would be predicated on. "Nobody could wear a hat and loon about like Bez. He really was the master."

Cannot remember where I read this, but as far as my memory goes the whole story originated from Jagger wanting to meet Miles Davis - whether to record or just socially I don't remember.

As these guys are wont to (almost like when you wanted to date soneone back in the school yard: do you want to go out - put your x in..) his people sent word to his people that he wanted to play/hang with him.

After ignoring the first calls it is rumored that Miles Davis - who definetely knew who was who - spake the immortal words, "Who the @#$%& is Mick Jagger [anyway]" thereby saying not so much, he did not know who the gentleman in question was, but that he did not have the time in the world to meet him.

Who do you think you are??? To wear a shirt like that!! The only one entiteled to wear a shirt like that in my eyes is Keith. Sorry but not people like you and me. I don't think that it does mean anything to one of us to wear a shirt with a line like that. I do think it is a bit offending to Mick. Why should a fan would like to do that? I'm not trying to say that one should not offend Mick if he wants or needs to do that. Everybody is free to what he wants, but using that line, no, not in my eyes. To wear a shirt like that for fun?? It's not fun in my eyes. It's not original!!

It's a joke to use another ones joke? As said before, everybody is free to as he likes, but it's not funny to me. Just my opinion.

If it wasn't clear, I'm not wanting to say what one should or shouldn't do or leave. It's just my opinion that I think it's pritty stupid to wear a shirt with that line if you have nothing more to do with Mick Jagger as any other regular fan.
