Gomper (insp. by Velvet Underground?)

Put on the Satanic sessions and Gomper really sounds like VU (they listened a lot to VU). Dont understand what's supposed to be bad with Gomper. Great song.

In order to fully enjoy Gomper you gotta have a crush on Brian or like an obssession. I find it sort of peculiar, but it's fine with me as long as people are happy and so on. Just my two cents anyway.

Why? I find that a strange thing to say bearing in mind Keith wrote it, plays on it and probably had a big say on how the track was arranged.

Interestingly, Brian plays his Vox Bijou(electric dulcimer) with a slide on this as well as recorder.

Keith might have written the very first sung segments, but I don't see how Keith could have written the jam. And that is what it is. A psychedelic 60's jam. It sounds like mostly Brian to me. The latter parts.
I really don't have a crush on Brian, but I have always liked most of Satanic: Gomper, Latern, See what happens. It's "On with the Show" that gives me the headache.

Keith plays electric 6 & 12 string, bill on his fretless bass, charlie percussion and Nicky on organ.

They ALL have a pretty prominent role.

Majesty (why am calling some buddy on line Majesty LOL) maybe it comes down to interpretation at some point. Of course there are other musicians. Keith is playing on there. But this has ( to me at least) alwasy been Brian's spotlight. I honestly thought it was Brian on tablas, mellotron, flute and that damn sitar/dulcimer deal.

Hey drugs! winking smiley

I know what you mean, just being overly pedantic for some reason! There's no mellotron on it... erk, I'll stop now!!! tongue sticking out smiley

Velvet Underground influence Can be heard in Stones music, but it's on Beggers, in Keef's screeching guitar sound, inspired by Lou's playing on tracks like White Light/White Heat.

Interestingly, if you listen to Yoko Ono's Rock and Roll Circus performance, without Yoko Ono's vocals, it sounds very much like the Velvet Underground.

I'd say that intro to SCB is very similar to the intro to 'Heroin', just faster.
