Sad celebration

Chernobyl disaster occured 21 years ago.

I do not - I repeat - I do not want a discussion.
Just a note. Speaking of Ukraine and Kiev.
I was a summer camp leader for a group of fine,
but (some of them) ill children from that district,
back in 1991. Wonder where they are now...

Any fans heading to the Kiev gig with some spare time on their hands might want to visit the Chernobyl Museum. Its well worth a visit and a reminder of what can happen.......

There is actually a tourist company in Kiev which will arrenge visits to the actual site itself.

One of the Ukraine camp leaders (see above) told us
they had been out for a walk on the weekend after
the accident. At that time they 'cleaned' the place with brooms.
Till that point noone had told them about any accident.

How far away from Kiev is Chernobyl? I have no idea about that place except we could not use any meat from animals living outside for years in Norway, like raindeers etc, because of this big mess in Chernobyl...

I remember when it happened we were on holidays in Italy and I was not allowed to sit down in the sand and play because of the radiation. Horrible accident, let's just hope something like that doesn't happen again...

Not far. About 100 km north of Kiev, near Bealorusian border (see the map: [upload.wikimedia.org]). Actually, altough the power plant is referred to as Chernobyl the biggest disaster came to the town of Prypiat which had to be completely abonded after the tradegy.

If someone is intrested there are special tours organized to the closed area. More information here: [www.ukrainianweb.com]
