Milano 1970 video footage
Posted by: Hound Dog ()

Just got this dvd and I am amazed at how good the picture quality is. Sound might be dubbed from an audio recording of the show, havn't had the chance to watch it closely yet. But I was impressed with the picture quality, looks pro shot. This made me wonder if there is anything else out there from the 1968-1971 years. I know there are a few songs from the London 69 show in bad quality and the Marquee from 71, but are there any other hiddden gems out there like these???

Any video footage of the gig they did in 68, I believe the last with Brian. Anything else from 70 or 71? This made me hungry for more.

The boots from the 1970 tour always sounded hot. Would love to see some video. Might I ask Where was this obtained and is it available?

Uhhhh.... are you sure? It looks like 1969 footage -- specifically, bonus footage from the Criterion release of GIMME SHELTER (but w/the picture reversed). I'll double check if no one else can confirm.

I'm sure it's 1969 USA!

it begins with the slowed down footage for "Love In Vain", and it's all Maysles stuff from GS. Well, it's shot roughly on the same latitude as Milano.

yes - GS footage BUT Hound Dog is correct - the Milan footage is very good and is authentic.

That is not the footage I am talking about. The Milano footage has JJF, Roll Over Beetoven, Midnight Rambler, Dead Flowers, You Gotta Move and a few others. Not the whole show. And this is the first time I have seen this after thinking I already have everything available on DVD from these years. So I was pretty surprised to find this. Got it from a trader on Hot Stuff.

The only copy I have seen has skips, so I presume it is not the one from Hot Stuff. The color portions are dubbed excerpts so it is similar to LIV from Gimme Shelter or those '73 Germany shows that were dubbed though the dubs on Milan '70 seem to be from the same show. It ends with a (surprise, surprise) Beatles vs. Stones showdown.

Rolling Stones 1970 Milan
• Little Queenie B&W with audio (possibly 1969 NY)
• Jumping Jack Flash Color seems dubbed from same show
• Roll Over Beethoven Color seems dubbed from same show

The Beatles June 1965
• Twist and Shout Color seems dubbed from same show
Historical Excerpts
• Frank Sinatra Torna Sorrento
• Dean Martin Oh Mari
• Elvis Presley Santa Lucia
• Chet Baker
Zucchero What a Wonderful World
Historical Live, Dubbed & Video Excepts
• Paul Anka

• Charles Aznevour
• Sylvia Varti
Zucchero Can’t Find My Way Home

• She’s a Woman Color seems dubbed from same show
Rolling Stones
• Lady Jane TV pre-recorded audio
• The Last Time 1967 Live Color seems dubbed from same show
I Rangzen Strawberry Fields. Let’s Spend the Night Together
Miscellaneous Videos
• Young Rascals It’s a Beautiful Day
• Procal Harum
Zucchero [Procol Harum]
The Beatles (brief excerpt)
Stevie Wonder
Zucchero Isn’t She Lovely, Sad Sad Song

This is a set list of a Italian TV program called "TG2 Dossier Storie"

Yeah that is a different dvd all together. The Milano 1970 dvd is about half of the show in very good picture quality, the sound is so so, but still very enjoyable and a great look at one of their 1970 tour performances. They all look very stoned.

I'm dying to see this footage from Milano. I didn't know it existed. Would someone out there be kind enough to do a trade for this material? I'm not able to burn DVD's at the moment but have nearly 3000 hours of audio to trade. My audio list can be found at: [www.tapetrader.com]

Thanks to all!

1970 was their best tour. Keith wasn't strung out on junk, the material was so good (Dead Flowers, Brown Sugar, Let It Rock, Little Queenie, Roll Over Beethoven + the acoustic number(s)), the lighting was brilliant, and Mick was just perfect! Alot more relaxed than the American shows from November '69.

One thing I noticed about this tour is the tempo of songs sounds even slower than the 69 tour. Like the band is very stoned and out of it, but its still brilliant in its own way. Like mentioned they sound and look much more relaxed and comfortable on stage. Small venues, great set list and great stage pressence.

I'd trade this but I am still trying to get my dvd burner going or at least learning how to do it by myself, a friend helped me burn dvds in the past but on his computer not mine. If you guys that are looking for it still can't find it in a trade contact me, hopefully I'll soon have the hang of my dvd burner and will send some copies over.

I love the 1970 European tour but the lack of high quality audio and video from that tour make it almost the "forgotten" tour. Seems like even the '71 English tour gets more mention from the fans, mainly because of the Leeds and Marquee recordings, but the '70 European tour was a far superior outting than the '71 English tour.

Somebody called it their best tour in an earlier post and that's hard to argue against. Their first tour with Nicky Hopkins and the horns and they were playing great new material from the then-yet-to-be released Sticky Fingers. Great Berry covers. A really great tour. Better than the storied '69 American tour (at least in my opinion).

This show is a nice little tease of what the 1970 tour was like...

1968 - You've got the r&r circus
1969 - You got Gimme Shelter and Hyde park
1970 - Milan
1971 - Leeds
1972 - Ladies & Gentlemen and @#$%& Blues
1973 - a song or two from Dick Cavett, and then some footage with overdubbed sound

Am I missing anything

Hey Dale mate. Get the programme called Nero Burner. It's so easy. Even a computer jerk trainee like me can do that stuff.

Is it just me or does anyone think the recent Milan footage is a mix of 2 shows?
Check out what Keith, Mick T & Jagger are wearing....their clothes change !

I'd be interested to hear people's thoughts on this and IF they can tell us what the 2 shows are. 1 is obviously Milan, but the other...? Perhaps Rome?
