The British double album - as good as it gets.
Posted by: The Sicilian ()
Date: April 15, 2007 22:21

Some of the best ever made:

Rolling Stones "Exile On Main St."

Led Zeppelin "Physical Graffiti"

Pink Floyd "The Wall"

Beatles "White Album"

What are your favorites and did I leave out anything. Only studio albums not live.

How would you rank them?

London Calling by the Clash?

Sorry to be picky but I don't recall Dark Side Of The Moon being a double. Has it been reissued with bonus tracks or something? I wouldn't know as I don't rate it.

Of the others I think Exile is far and away the best. I say that not out of blind loyalty but because I think the others, (including London Calling), are patchy whereas Exile - for me - shines from begining to end.

Wasn't Dark side of the Moon a single album

Yes it is. The Sicilian is probably referring to 'the Wall'.

I was and it is corrected, I don't know how that got into my head. Must be all those brilliant posts running thru my mind that Sohoe has put up lately.

Thanks again Sohoe, I trying to desperately finish the Neil Young Massey Hall show before the files expire. Luckily the files are small which is good for slow connections.

BTW I love that Greatful Dead Archive site. Not only can you download tons of shows but they give you about four different quality and source options to pull the show in with on the same page. Great find.

Do you know of any Chicago Transit Authority boots? Especially the Dallas Festival in I think 1969?

Sure, but isn't that your typical IORR twist on the topic?

Someone will start a thread called "List your Favorite Stones Song" and someone will respond with a list of ten. Ask for the Top Ten, you'll get twenty.

I wonder how many people who post here have done badly on tests because they failed to read the questions!!

quadrophenia
and also to all fairness to the hugely great ian gillian; the original studio version of jesus christ superstar...say what you will about all the most awful & cheesy movie and plays versions...original studio release has great melodies and hot guitars and ian is operatic and powerful. i'm a big purple fan so i'm prejudiced here...also i like i don't know how to love him on this one...and the other male singer opposite ian's character...
(great thread idea btw)
(also, if this studio version wasn't all over new fm format in the 60's, it never would have turned into the tentpole franchise or launched a certain writer's career...soo...on second thought...never mind...heh heh)

back when elton was in his prime ('69-'75) he and Bernie
put out some great music.

I always thought that Quadrophenia would have been much better if it had been cut down to a single disc.

yup your right, but I thought what a clever way to sneak in Everybody, at least half of it is studio:-) I didn't see anything against best of's, that's why I included Kronicals....
And to loog droog...my god man! Quadrophenia as a single album!? No way! That is one of the best albums by anyone, and I would never be able to chop out any of the songs, they all fit together so well....I LOVE IT!
