OT: Bob Dylan Glasgow Last Night

Bob Dylan in fine form last night in Glasgow. Despite the SECC venue , probably the worst setting for a Dylan gig anywhere, Bob once again proved why he remains peerless. A 2 hour show which featured Bob on guitar for the first 4 songs included 6 songs from Modern Times as well as a number of re-worked classics most notably It Ain't Me Babe , It's Alright Ma and Hard Rain's Gonna Fall.
The highlight of the evening for me was a blistering version of John Brown closely followed by Just like Tom Thumb's Blues and Ain't Talkin'.
As always Dylan is prepared to take risks with his music which keeps the performances fresh and contemporary.
The Never Ending Tour Rolls on...................

what time did he start at? The Wembley tickets I have says that doors open at 6.30

Last time I saw him, in November 2005, the shows were starting about 7.45 and were over by 9.30! Bobby seemed to want to be back in his hotel room with his horlicks and bedroom slippers..!

Doors open at 6.30 pm . Performance due to begin at 7.30 pm , Bob on stage at 7.35 pm. Good thing is it leaves you plenty time for a drink after the gig. early night

Saw him last Sunday in Amsterdam (5500 attending). First time I saw him and was impressed. Loved the rock 'n roll approach, loved the new songs, especially Nettie Moore. That song got the whole crowd silent.

He got on stage 07.35 and left 09.20 h.

Great set list! How does Dylan manage without Chuck Leavell?

He was truly great in Glasgow. Opened with Cats in the well - the equivalent of the Stones starting with One hit (or some other mid -late period non hit forgotten gem). It was a night of drama, crammed with his best hellfire and brimstone epics - Its alright ma, John Brown, Hard Rain, Aint talking!
His voice was crystal clear, apart from It aint me babe, which Im sure he just plays to take the piss. Its the one song where he refuses to allow the audience a sing along, cause he's a cranky old git! The sound was warm and swampy. Regrets? I have a few! Still havent heard Tangled up in blue (despite countless shows Ive seen) tho I know he s played it recently. It was a career "Bookend" show. Loads of new songs and loads of early ones, but just one song from the 70's, 80s and 90's combined.
Hope everyone here with tix has a great time....he's on great form

For only the 6th time ever, by my reckoning.

Three in 1986, once in 1987 (Paris - I was there) and in George, Wa. in 2000.

Quite a surprise.

Maybe we'll get "Copper Kettle" or "Wigwam" in London.

I reckon he'll do some Human League or Def Leppard, personally....

Like a Rolling Stone for London - oh, stop, he'll play that anyway.....

Actually 8th.

>Three in 1986, once in 1987 (Paris - I was there) and in George, Wa. in 2000.

Plus once each in '60 & '61, according to hisbobness.info:

House of the Rising Sun St. Paul, MN, USA 01-Jun-60
House of the Rising Sun New York City, NY, USA 04-Nov-61
House of the Rising Sun Sydney, NSW, Australia 11-Feb-86
House of the Rising Sun Saratoga Springs, NY, USA 13-Jul-86
House of the Rising Sun New York City, NY, USA 17-Jul-86
House of the Rising Sun Paris, France 07-Oct-87
House of the Rising Sun George, WA, USA 18-Jun-00
House of the Rising Sun Newcastle, England, UK 12-Apr-07

I bet the ones in the 80s were at the request of Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers.

Cheers for that. Never heard of that site, although on lookin' at it its a renamed website from another info page.

The info I got came from the usually gospel-like www.bjorner.com who listed the Sydney '86 performance a a live debut.

Found it hard to believe he'd never played it until '86. The St Paul '60 recording isnt on circulation as far as I know. I would imagine he played it several times in the early 60's but there just arent any existing recordings of most of them.

The '86 and '87 arrangements were very different from each other, even though theyre both with the Heartbreakers...'86 is a real hard rock version with Dylan really screaming the lyrics.
