guitarsound on Undercover

Since last week I've been listening to Undercover (the whole album) intensively! Such a great album! I like the guitarsound very very much (especially on She Was Hot and Too Tough). Is this the mesaboogie??? And with which guitar?? A Telecaster? Oh btw, does the intro of She Was Hot have some kind of delay???

Boogie Mark I, IIB an IIC+ mainly. There are loads of effects, mainly processed in the mixing stage.

Thank you, Mathijs. Is there a way to hear wether the effects are used in the amp setup/effects chain/the guitarcord to the amp or in the mixing stage?? Is that noticable to hear??

There is really no sure fire way to hear this. The best way to "determine" this is to use common sense and to try to imagine you're the one doing the recording. (So that's sort of like imagining you're the Rolling Stones; something we all do 24/7.
If you've been in recording studios I imagine it helps to figure out what makes more sense. E.g. most people do not favor adding distortion/ overdrive postmix. It sounds very fake. Then on the other hand 'fake' is exactly the effect you want at times. Often having the f/x on in the amp setting changes the way you actually play, perform the take. Having a huge delay setting will most certainly chnage the way you strum. The Edge with those zillion rpt delays might onl;y have to strum once or twice every ferw bars with right hand.
I would imagine that the Flange on "Feel on Baby" was in the Amp or pedal setting before mixing because it is such an integral part of the identity of the song and the feel. The f/x can often assist in what you actually write. I wonder e.g if Keith would have even written the keyline for "Let it Loose" had he not been leslied up like that. Or "can You hear the Music"...had Keith been plugged in with Tele, dry in Mesa, would that riff have come into being?

Also, if this is even possible to answer - what was Keith's main 6-string for Undercover - the Tele Custom?

on the four flicks documentary Tip Of The Tongue, you can see him rehearsing Slave through his Mesa.

Could you post some Keith pictures from 1983 that show him with his Tele Custom or Mary Kaye strat? I can only find one picture from the Undercover recording sessions! :-(

I rather like Dirty Work. I'd even go so far as to call it their best 1980s album. Better than Steel Wheels and, yes, better than Tatoo You.
