I just need a room for taking a shower ;-)

I suggest the city (central part), or even Buda but only the inner part, close to the center.Transport is fairly good. A think Keleti pályaudvar (East Railway Station) area is not so good. But you can reach the stadium easily from the center by Metro. And a lot of bus and tram lines, too.

What about that one then?
Stadium is 2 stops from there!

This one is close to the stadium too:
and only 26 Euros for a single room...

The question is: do you want to come to Budapest just for the show, or do you want to stay some hours or one or two days in this town?

Note what the native 1962 says!
Reckon it might be just like if ya seek accomodation close to Copenhagens
Hovedbanegården (or, for that matter, Centralstation in Stockholm)..
Bad reputation women etc?

Please also remember they have a well-equipped metro system in Budapest,
its a huge city with about 3 million inhabitants.
[en.wikipedia.org] Metro map

I also have a question to 1962:
Would you say all areas in all directions around Keleti pályaudvar are less good;or would I watch out particularly for some areas.. ?

Hi 1962

I registered and "searched" for stones. There is the RS.com membership sale only. I did not buy, but the prizes are shown like posted.

Railway station areas (like in other big towns) are not the best places to stay.
Once again the question is: do you want also some sightseeing, or just to stay for the concert and next morning go ? I think it's worth to stay more, but you know your plans. Of course the other thing is the price question.

[www.iranymagyarorszag.hu] [www.glosk.com]
- You're right, 1962, railway station areas are rarely of any class in general.

But you & I know people ought to stay and explore this culturally
& historically rich city smiling smiley ... Buda-side is best imho.

Hi Babon,
And what about Hungarian girls? Do you have Hungarian girlfriend, don't you?

Re: Budapest

I wish I had... grinning smiley ...
The Hungarian girls are the most beautiful in the world
(only Italians, Swedish, Norweigan, Finnish, Greek,
Dutch, Irish are up there more or less close.. And Czech,
German, Spanish... winking smiley).. No I'm just a hungarorockfreak since 1979...

For those about to remain a while in Hungary
Touristic link to my favorite part of Hungary - the Eastern part
around Miskolc... This is Eger, in English
[www.egeronline.com]
...Easy to reach by car or train from Budapest, maximum 2 hours.

An evenin' in the wine-cellars is just a memory for more than a lifetime...
Also recommend Tokaj and Bükk Mountains with Lillafüred.
In the opposite part, South-West, you have the Balaton too of course.

Well, I don't think your comment is very helpful either...
Judging from your grammar your are Hungarian, so perhaps you can contribute something interesting?

Actually, a qoute like "wouldn't recommend going for a walk there at night." is not helpful, because it is not true.
Of course I can contribute something interesting for you: I live in Budapest and I don't know any area here where you are in danger at night.

Jó estet kívánok [I wish ya good evenin'],

Without having any statistics I would also say Budapest is one of
the safest capitals you can walk around in; on the other hand
there is hardly a recommended thing to walk around in empty streets
at night nowhere in this world.

Keefed, could you help the people here with some site
which is available in English, where you could find some
fine middle-class hotels? Köszönöm szépen [Thank ya]

This hotel is the closest to the Puskas ferenc Stadium, it's called Hotel Stadion and it's a 3-star hotel:

Sorry if it was mentioned earlier

I've never been there so I can not recommend or not recommend it

thanks for this input from the people who know Budapest -
my response to 1962's question is: both! i love being able to walk home after a show,
but i'd like to be somewhere convenient to exploring the cool parts of town too,
and i can't afford Gellert-like prices. any suggestions will be very gratefully received!

Yes, with ö. Your Hungarian is perfect it seems and your knowledge of Hungarian rock music is better than mine I think smiling smiley
I also pray for Hobo to be the opening act with Deak Bill of course, it would be fantastic if they played the Kopaszkutya soundtrack live.

It depends on where you're coming from: I live in a town which is famous for being pretty dangerous, and when I came to Budapest (which is my favourite city) I felt completely safe also at night time.
