On "Little Steven's Underground Garage" (radio show), he played "Not Fade Away" by the Stones, and mentioned that Buddy Holly was just one of four artists to be covered by both the beatles and stones.
I'm trying to get the other three. Obviously there's Chuck Berry. I can't seem to get the other two. Maybe Little Richard (Long Tall Sally by the Beatles, not sure about the stones). Maybe the Temptations? Any help would be great.
On a related note, this makes me think about the uniqueness of the Stones. Unlike any other band (including the Beatles) they assimilated so many different styles of music. They took rockabilly and rock and roll such as little richard, chuck berry, bo diddley, elvis etc, but also took equally from straight blues of Howlin Wolf, Muddy Waters, Robert Johnson etc, plus the soul music of Solomon Burke, Otis Redding, gospel and church music etc. Not to mention reggae and disco. Think of anyone else--Clapton wasn't influenced by R and R so much, the beatles weren't influenced by the blues, and so on.
