The official Nijmegen 2007 thread
Posted by: Buddy Young ()

Let just asume the rumours are true. I think Nijmegen would be a great choice as a city. No Amsterdam echodome, but a nice field without seats.

Holland isn't exactly the country that always offers you sunshine, so the weather is going to be the great unreliable factor...oh no...ronnie's the great unreliable factor ;-)

Listen to my new album on www.bowemusic.nl!

A field with no seats... how big is this place? Will some people be miles from the stage? Is there anything around like a town, hotels, etc? I am thinking of coming but not sure where to stay ir what to expect at a non-stadium show. Thanks!

hi i was there in 1995, 2 sold out concerts. If you go, be sure you arrive early at the park/field because it holds about 60.000 people. For the first concert i wasthere at 12 oclock, and was about 15 meters from the stage. the second concert i was about midfield and could not see much. The stones played fantastic, both concerts, but it is a massive audience, just on the field.

there are some medium hotels in nijmegen, and one hotel near the railway station.
I live in Holland, but am not going to this concert. I prefer London or Brussels.
Anyway, enjoy if you are going!! Bye Jeroen

Festival sites put a certain stress on you as a human person. They treat you worse than they treat animals. You queue for hours in and out of the site. Especially out. Unless you pay 20+ Euro extra for the FOS option you are left out in the midedle of nowhere. Except for Horsens Denmark last year, which was excelent organized for the Stones, most festival site arrangements are a true pain for a person. But at the show, if you have enough food, drink and patience, the sound is outstanding, the mood is great, and you soon forget about the horrible logistics. PS. Don't bring a car!

I was there in 95...for those two shows..near Nijmegen i took a hotel in a place called ''Beek Ubbergen'' every time i took the us or a taxi....you could drink beer till 5 in the morning...i went early to the Stones..so i could be fos..that worked...its a nice town...but three days are long enough for a stay there.

Damn, I thought it was the stadium. Just leave earlier then, while they play Satisfaction. Works all the time ;-)

I'm still in doubt... I'm graduating my master in the week after this show, which is the week before Paris: a show I'll definitely see.

But if preparations are progressing good, I think I can't resist the temptation of following Ticketservice.nl for extra FOS-tickets... I mean, I've never seen a show at a festival-site, and soundwise it would be a great thing.

being early is key ineed. Traffic and parking is a drag in Nijmegen.

smile: i was at the first Nijmegen show in 95. indeed the conditions were not the greatest -
it was cold, and Mick thanked us for coming to see them "out in the middle of ... of ... a @#$%& field!" :E
but the crowd was great, and what a strong beautiful show! best chanting for Charlie i've ever witnessed too

Personally I feel that if they don't improve over the Japan shows and the Beacon theater show please don't tour at all. These shows were absolutely dreadful, and I feel any band playing as bad as this should not be on the road anymore. And this feeling is aside my feeling that I loath festival grounds.

I read somewhere the ticketsale will start next Saturday. So be early at a postoffice near you! If the rumour is true of course

Agree with Mathijs on this. Technically (the guitars) spoken they should quit.
The circus act can't cover the fact anymore that they are done.
Listened to Clapton in Japan 2006 this week. Whether it is because of Derek Truks or not, muscially it is still top. Stones sound embarassing into comparison with this.

There has been filed an option on getting an licence to play in the park by loc7000 (www.loc7000.com), said the government of Nijmegen. So looks good.

Saitama, Japan was excellent - I take the shows in that form any day.

More than willing to believe you, only not the date and score: 3-0 in 1978

Having played against legendary players like Ruud Krol, Rensenbrink, Arie Haan and Wim Janssen only a few months after the WC-final against Argentina I'm sure makes you IORR's soccer player par excellence!

6853,

I don't wanna spoil the party, but the show will be at the festivalsite (Goffertpark), NOT inside the Goffert Stadium... Doesn't mean you cannot visit the place anyway, and ask your teammates to join you!

I was there in 95 too, june 14 to be exact, and have to share with you I'm not really happy with what I remember. Indeed the traffic was a mess. It took a few hours to get to the field and leaving was horrible too.
It was a windy day and the sound really suffered from that. I was somewhere halfway the field, left side and had a bad sight, for the field is not really flat. I hope circumstances are a lot better this year, if it's going to happen off course.

Let it rock!

If you click on 'opstelling' you'll see the names of the dutch players (only) listed. Funny, as a young lad I must have been with my nose up against the screen, soccer being still a matter of live and death then. Do you remember any specifics of the game? As a centerhalf you must have had some brushes with the likes of Krol (playing as a sweeper and famous for his excursions along the axis of the field, somewhat like Rijkaard later) and Haan.

Dick Nanninga it was. The 2nd and last dutchman to ever score in a worldcup final.
