Good call RSFan, its so hard to know what to leave off. I tried to deliberately stay away from singles, harking back to the days in the UK when singles would'nt appear on albums. But can't argue with any of your selections and like the way that you have come right up to date.

Vinyl or cd album? 2 sides of about 22 minutes each as most long players in the 70s had? Or a total of 60-65 minutes as today?

Mr Bong I was putting myself in the position of the Stones being a new band and just releasing their first album and then thought what would make it the best album ever if it came out without knowing the songs existed. If you get my drift!

Well, everybody has their favorites and the warhorses would truly dominate most everyone's best of CD. I did this several years ago and have since changed my mind about a few, but here goes:

and the bonus cut: Satisfaction, I know their signature tune, but even Mick and Keith were uncertain of it as a single and we know the lick was recorded while Keith was attempting to pass out.

Have at it with my list. It's heavy on the hits, but the thread was ONE best of CD. I personally think 40 Licks captured most of their most popular tunes, but not necessarily their best. I left out many of course, including one I would add as a ("B side ) and that would be "Out of Control" which IMHO one of their best cuts since 1981.

At least most all lists on this thread have tried to capture all periods of the band, although most of us would agree their most popular and enduring hits with a few exceptions were recorded between 1968 and 1973. Paint It, Black, Satisfaction, Ruby Tuesday, Miss You and Start Me Up excepting of course.
