Family: Delp's death was suicide
By KATHARINE WEBSTER, Associated Press Writer
Wed Mar 14, 5:40 PM ET

CONCORD, N.H. - The family of Brad Delp, the lead singer for the band Boston, said his death was a suicide.

"He was a man who gave all he had to give to everyone around him, whether family, friends, fans or strangers," the family said in a statement relayed by police Wednesday. "He gave as long as he could, as best he could, and he was very tired. We take comfort in knowing that he is now, at last, at peace."

Delp, 55, died Friday at his Atkinson home.

Toxicology tests by the state medical examiner's office showed that Delp committed suicide by carbon monoxide poisoning, said Lt. William Baldwin. Police said Delp had sealed himself inside a bathroom with two charcoal grills sometime between 11:30 p.m. Thursday and Friday afternoon, when he was found by fiancee Pamela Sullivan.

Delp also left two notes taped to a door and letters to his family and Sullivan. Baldwin said police do not know the contents of the letters.

The family's statement said Sullivan, Delp's children and their mother, Delp's ex-wife Micki Delp, were grateful for the sympathy they had received.

Delp joined Boston in the mid-1970s and sang two of its biggest hits, "More than a Feeling" and "Long Time."

He had planned to marry Sullivan this summer during a break in a tour with Boston. A lifelong Beatles fan, Delp also played with the tribute band Beatle Juice.

Beatle Juice performed a benefit last year to help build a new public library in Atkinson, a small town of about 6,000 residents on the Massachusetts border.

The family said last week it planned a private funeral followed by a public memorial to be scheduled later.

This may sound cruel, but what a dumbass way to kill yourself...that overproduced schlock rock must have gone to his brain, just needed some brickettes to finish the job...

But, he is a human being, so my prayers go out for his family, but, unfortunately for him, prayers wont do him a lick of good...

RIP

A very sad ending to one of rock n' roll's legendary singers...

Brad Delp was the voice of summer in the 70's...

So sad.

I loved his voice. Boston's first two albums were classic.

I think there's no doubt that he deserves respect as the voice of one of the best bands of his ere.

What a cold, non - thinking thing to say, well, if it's illegal maybe they should arrest him then have a Priest, Pastor, Preacher, Iman, or Rabbi lecture his sinning ass in jail....

Lukester got it right, suicide is a heavy thing that effects many families and friends, obviously the guy was in deep emotional pain - RIP Brad (and for the record "MORE THAN A FEELING" was a great, upbeat song when it came out - played numerous times at every party everywhere back in the day)......

Yeah...but that would be a REAL nasty way to go....much easier ways...for creativity, I will give an A+, for producitivity, A+, for giving a hoot for your relatives, F-.

Enough said, lets drop this nasty thread...

Peace to all, just dont off yourselves...

well, the only bad ways are the ones that don't work - like jumping out of a three-story building.....

Ive heard that almost everyone who survived jumping off the GG bridge says that the second they left the ledge they wished they didn't do it.

mhm. seen a few interviews with survivors over the years. difference with something like this is that it's often an impulse decision. i've actually personally known three folks that have done this deed - none survived.

Jumping off a bridge is lame (and scary and painful, for a moment) Best to take about 100 Blue Valium and numerous Tequila drinks while listening to HEAVEN on repeat on the stereo... float away in peace and still look good for the funeral..... (God, no more Federal Taxes or Fed Government... let me see how many Valium I can round up... think there's plenty of Tequila....wait I have a big AMAZON order coming tomorrow, gotta postpone this thing for now, SHIT !!!)

He had kids man. you can't do that and expect sympathy. Rot in Hell Delp as your poor children are fatherless.

I'm sure if his kids ever read your garbage they will feel much better. Luckily God is the final judge of us all and not some unsympathetic pinhead like you.
