When has Bitch sounded better - Taylor's riffing and chunky rhythm against Keith's killer riffing. The raw energy of the band.

Brown Sugar - taylor's outro solo truly fantastic

Love in Vain - taylor is magnificent his guitar whistles to the heavens

Dead Flowers - when has it sounded better with keith and mick's vocals and
play that guitar boy taylor plays those country bends the way Gram Parsons wanted them to be played.Textbook guitar playing up and down the fretboard.

dj - YCAGWYW I do not have with me here at work but Taylor plays the most beautiful octave riff over the chorus truly brilliant as well as the solo because taylor does not have share the solo with keys no sax solo .

But OpenG, when Bobby comes in with the long sustained notes on the golden horn, that is one of the classic moments from the 72 sounds. Not to take anything away from Taylor's magninficent solos; it only gets an etxra boost when followed by the Sax. There's enough of Keef's rhythm guitar to go around for everyone.

yes i agree on brussels taylor's ending solo sounds like a sax as he transforms the solo and part over to sax.

Ohhhhh, I see...you're supposed to play the guitar at the end of the song instead of waving.

Is this MR from Dallas #2 or Philly? Yeah, Philly and Pittsburgh were the last really good shows of the tour, I reckon. In NYC they blew everybody away, but they were too exhausted to do anything more than remain upright throughout the shows. NYC 26/7 is good, but still there's a staleness to alot of the material, BBJ & RTJ excluded.

no its sincere passion for good music and discussion - These live recordings will stand the test of time and are timeless . The band has not been able to match the Mick Taylor Period Live and thats why I am drawn to these priceless
recordings.

That's a fact. But it is hard to believe that one person could force the band into such a different direction sound wise. Would the Stones sounded any different had a more functional Brian Jones been around for the 69 tour. OpenG, could you post the rest of this show as individual tracks via sendspace when time permits?

Is this the same boot as TSP's "Philadelphia Special II" ?

If this is the Philadelphia Special that I have, neither "Dead Flowers" or "Midnight Rambler" are from Philly. They're from Ft. Worth. I don't think "Love In Vain" is either and maybe not "Sweet Virginia" and "You Can't Always Get What You Want" but I am pretty sure that on my copy, the last three songs (RTJ, JJF, SFM) are actually from Ft. Worth. I'd have to go back and listen to it.

Thanks Dice!

I was wondering about: Dead Flowers as I read they stopped playing it after that
Dallas swing. God I hope Martin Scor. includes VIDEO of that Philly show in
his documentary!!!!!

There is also a song on here, which I consider one of the GREATEST boots ever that is clearly from NY. Love this one--heavy rotation kind of disc.

<Ohhhhh, I see...you're supposed to play the guitar at the end of the song instead of waving.>

Funny!

I've often thought Taylor's last dozen or so notes at the end of a song are better than another's solos.

Which song might that be?
Which version do you have BTW.....I or II?

I remember when I got my copy (actually an original silver disc) of "Philadelphia Special II" that almost every version of the songs on there were the same as the Decca Unreleased '72 Live Album. This one doesn't include "Dead Flowers" but does include "Uptight/Satisfaction" and "Don't Lie To Me". I'd have to go back and listen to it to tell you which songs come from which show but from memory, I know that killer version of "Midnight Rambler" and "Don't Lie To Me" come from Ft. Worth 6/24/72 2nd show.

I am not sure which one I have--it does not designate. It does not have Satisfaction (unfortunately). I think the song where the pre song banter suggests it is in NY is Gimmie Shelter, but I am not certain--will have to check--not much of a chore to cue this one up.

all down the line from LAG - when i first saw this i said to myself this proves they were the greatest rock and roll band - the band just is on fire and when has keith chopped down those open chords any better, taylor takes the band to a new level.

That title "Decca Unreleased live album" is a stupid compilation,
but you can get some of the tracks from the Fort WOrth/Philadelphia Soundboards for free, uploaded by the allmighty Urban Wheels here [www.iorr.org] in FLAC

Right well I'm not aware of a soundboard recording of "Gimme Shelter" from New York in '72. At least not in circulation. You must have Philadelphia Special I and I have II because mine has "Uptight/Satisfaction" and "Don't Lie To Me" but no "Dead Flowers". It's possible that there's a song on yours that's from New York. I thought the version of "Gimme Shelter" on that one came from Philly on 7/20/72 but like I said, I don't have that version so I ain't sure.

Tumblin--that sounds possible--have not gotten a chance to listen to it yet.

And, I am far from certain that the song was Gimmie Shelter--it was in the middle of the show.

Glass Slide, that Gimme Shelter is Definately from Fort Worth or Philadelphia, not New York.

Ok, like I said, not sure of the song, just that in between songs, Mick says something about NY--will have to check this out closer--when I hear it, I will give the quote.

here is ycagwyw from the philly special - I think it is from fort worth 6/24/72
It may have taylor's longest extended solo he plays at 4.00 to 6.15 ( a 2 minute solo because there was no sax solo.Could this be taylor's longest extended solo Live. also listen to his octave riff over the chorus.

also here is midnight rambler this version is incredible.

Check out Taylor's solo in "Gimme Shelter" from the audience recording of the 7/26/72 show in New York. I dunno if it's longer but it's probably the best version of the song I've ever heard. Too bad it's not available in soundboard.

Yeah really. If this is the same version I'm thinking of (I didn't download it), then it's my all time favorite version (Ft. Worth 6/24/72 2nd show).
