Where else could you be living, and just happen to bump into the Rolling Stones around the corner?

Gazza, guess what I meant about the crossroads thing is the heart of their music and sound is in the blues, which I guess is really the south but not really any place in particular. Or I guess if you want to quote more Keith, we are all from Africa...

New York, London, Paris, Munich... everybody talk about M POP Muzik!

They are welcome all around the world so maybe they are home everywhere. This site is a sign of that. Everybody loves the Stones.

Questions:

Where did Ronnie do a solo show and Mick Jagger surprise surprise appeared on stage to do the vocals on "Dance"?

Where did Charlie play "quintet" shows daily for a week or two where Mick, Ronnie, Bill and so on attended the shows in the audience?

Where did Ronnie do several other solo appearances lately?

Where will they show up for sure this summer, like they did last summer?

Where do you find Primrose Hill and Masons Yard?

Where do you find Kensington, Chelsea, Regent Street, Marquee Club, 100s Club, Soho, the River Thames, pubs with best bitter, East Enders and tens of thousands of good ole licensed taxis of the original style and shape?

Only in LONDON...

New York a good number two of course. Next chapter. Love NYC too...

interesting thoughts... there seems to be a split between new york and london.. i see them as capitals in a different sense....

i think in buenos aires' (my favorite city in the world.. always will be) defense it should be noted that no place in the world has as large a percentage of people who are rolling stones fans and i mean maniacs.. more importantly the young people love the stones and see nothing wrong with their age (unlike the United States where all I hear is that they are old), listen to the new albums more than the old ones, sit in bars at 2 am on weekend nights watching stones live dvds on big screen tvs (i've seen it), and identify themselves, correctly or not, with what they perceive to be a n anti-establishment ethos of rebellion they believe the stones represent... stones fans in buenos aires are the most hardcore i've ever seen.. they are known as either an eston or a rollinga.. personally i would prefer to be an eston... stones fans are everywhere.. go to a soccer match and there will be huge stones tongue flags with the club colors etc..

emphasis on the fact that its the young people who think the stones are cool as shit... not a bunch of aging baby boomers..no offense meant...

there's no need for me to repeat the story chuck leavell tells of trying to eat at a restaurant before a mob of argentine kids found him and he fleed the backdoor.. there's no need for me to repeat darryl jones' blog entry stating that argentine fans were by far the most passionate and wondering why..etc..etc..

keith is a story all of to himself in argentina.... he is absolutely GOD down there.. to far more people than you may imagine.... listen to the buenos aires concert from 2-21..uncut.. the ovation he gets is absolutely spine tingling..it just goes on and on and on...."ole ole ole richard richard"..

lastly, the stones brand of rockn'roll is still popular in argentina with new bands such as intoxicados (the intoxicated) still playing it....

buenos aires is the place where you can get the closest to what it may have been like in the mid to late 60s with the stones culturally relevant etc....

the stones in buenos aires are not just a rock band but more like a way of life...

thats got to count for something somehow..and thats why i wondered if buenos aires might be the cultural capital...

L.A., where they have always loved to play and where they recorded some of their greatest stuff going back to the mid-60s (Hollywood).

It certainly is London, with New York a close second.

I like it on the Four flicks MSG show, where mick is like "Madison Square Gardeeeeeeennnn.......!!! New York Citeeeeeeeeeeeeeyyyyyy.....! Top of the world!"

It is however a shame that the london crowd can be rather blase, but that is the problem when you play in a city that has everything, and has seen everything. What I like about seeing the stones in other smaller cities is that when the stones are in town, they seem to take over the place. They are all over the papers, on the news (studio newsreaders just mentioning they are in town, and reporters down at the venue talking about the upcoming show), its funny but I love it. For example, when I was on my way into glasgow city centre last august from the airport, i picked up the paper, i think it was the scottish edition of the sun, and it had pictures of the band arriving by plane. And the taxi driver knew they were playing.

You certainly dont get that in London, but, thats life.

LONDON - but do please explain what that's got to do with London being the STONES capital of the world. What's the Stones connection ? Are these places referred to in songs somewhere ? I can't think of such references any, but do please tell me if I'm wrong on that count.

Haha, as if I would be so selfish!!! Nah, I just checked the US ticketmaster and he ain't got no shows scheduled over there so far. Talking of JF, my tickets for the wembley show arrived yesterday in the mail! Thats damn quick! Im a bit concerned though - I have been checking tm.uk to see what tickets are available, and they still have plenty left in block A4 row 6! So perhaps it ain't selling too well? Mind you, i've not seen anything about it in the press, so I wonder who actually knows about it, apart from us music-mad concert-goin' nuts!

Im a bit of a nightowl these days, what with my work schedule, so i'll hit the sack in a while, there's too much good music on my laptop to keep me awake!

Funnily enough little queenie, given your particular line of work, you might be interested to know that what I'm actually doing over here is contributing to/writing an "environmental impact assessment report". It's for proposed "exploration" activities, not down in the south of the country in gorrilla territory - but in/around a lake in the great rift valley. Croc and hippo territory. I tell ya, very very pretty part of the world.

Gered Mankowitz is the connection -
his first studio was in Masons Yard, and some of his early photos of the Stones were done there;
Primrose Hill is where he did the shoot for the Between the Buttons cover.

London - for sure, their home town and for the many other reasons eloquently expressed by paulywaul and others above.

Toronto - after Keith had his run in with the Mounties there 30 years ago it could have been a different story, but he got away with it and ever since, the band have had a special relationship with Toronto.

Villefranche - without doubt, this WAS the RS capital of the world for a year or two in the early 70's.

London is where they met, played, formed recorded and built their fan base. They only moved to France for tax reasons. Any band can leave the country but they can't change where there roots are. They always return to London so I say London London London and again London

What about Louisville, Kentucky? After all, they wrote a song about it! They even played the song this past September to everyone in Churchill Downs Racetrack! It wasn't about the money they could make there was it? NAH !
Louisville, Kentucky it is !

London is the wife, sometimes she's not as hot as you would like, but still, you keep coming back, sooner or later, but always and inevitable. It's home, after all. And that is rewarded.

Amsterdam is the accountant, of course.

Paris is the best friend, you spend time together, enjoy the company and more.

New York is the 'sl*t' you cheat your wife with: nasty, filthy, the joy of excess, very very hot and always surprising. (But you never stay there too long).

Then there is BA, the girl you don't see or contact very often, but she doesn't complain, she's a guarantee for hot nights each time you visit her.
