R.I.P. Brian

a nice tribute on 93.3 wmmr in Philly this afternoon... wmmr is a rock station since 1968 i think one of the longest running rock stations ever in the US and they dont play alot of old Stones but today they played Ruby Tuesday and As Tears Go Bye ... on vinyl, no less

Hard to picture Brian becoming an Old Age Pensioner. Think it was Keith who mentioned that he always came across as one of those guys who you couldnt imagine reaching old age.

Echo what Rockman says - thanks Brian.

in the Australian interview, wasn't it something like:
"with some people you just know they'll never be 70 years old. not everybody makes it."

one other question: some sources say he was actually born on the 29th of February.
does anyone know if that's right? i always thought it would suit Brian.

he couldnt have been born on 29th February as 1942 wasnt a leap year (maybe youre confusing him with George Harrison who was always listed as being born on 25/2/43, yet later records suggest he was actually born just before midnight on the 24th?).

Its the date of death though, thats always puzzled me as the reports of his drowning always seem to suggest it took place before midnight on 2nd July.

smile: i'm not confusing Brian with anyone. if 1942 wasn't a leap year (i believe you!)
then the sources that say he was born on the 29th are the ones that are confused.
thanks!

yeah, it wasnt. leap years are always divisible by four, ie 1940, 1944, 1948 ...2000, 2004, 2008 etc.

or to look at it another way - the Olympic Games are held in leap years. smiling smiley

So, 1942 isnt a leap year (although I've seen Brian's year of birth often erroneously listed as 1944)

Gazza dear, i know what leap years are - and that some of them do end in 2
(for example if you'd taken one more step in either of your series).
but i have now taken it on board that 1942 wasn't one of them. thanks!

A 60s Icon, Founder of the Stones.
Lost his torch a little too early; but will always be
remembered as Mr 2Stoned.
A real bad & mean mofo; but who among the great stars aint?

we will all be dead alot longer than we are alive. Hopefully there are lots of R-n-R shows in the afterlife to help fill the time. And Brian is the headliner of today's show

Doesn't the original release of Through the Past Darkly erroneously list Brian's birth year as 1943? How could such a mistake occur on an official release?

in the early years the PR fudged Bill's and Brian's ages on purpose - Charlie's too, i reckon -
same as they hid the fact that Bill and then Charlie were married. it was just to make them cuter to fans.

I've seen Bill Wyman (William Perks) listed as 1944 as well (or would that be 1844?) ;-) (I don't think anybody in Stones had their birth year correct in the beginning....Wyman was put forward....Keef and The Jag was put backwards)

Bill's year of birth was listed officially - in fan club maagzines and official bios etc - as 1941 for years - well into the 70's in fact. Being five or six years older than the rest of the band in 1963 would have been considered absolutely ancient.

Jagger's year of birth has been listed erroneously as 1944 on several books and magazines too.

Speaking of Brian...I am no expert on what is available on video from the Brian era, but if there is anything better than the TAMI show footage, I'd like to know about it. It has been a long time since I'd seen that show. I watched it again recently. Lots of fun stuff there, but the Stones performance knocked me out. The camera work is stunning. A wonderful reminder about why they were so exciting. I recommend giving it a look if you haven't seen it or if you haven't seen it in a while. It's terrific. A must for Stones fans.
