What? I listened to 3-4 tracks only, SHattered Sweet Little Sixteen and Brown Sugar,
and those versions is also a part of the Handsome Girls set,
so I took it for granted that everything there were from the HandsomeGirls box..
my God!

It's a great thing, that '78 version. Do yourself a favour and track it down.

Yes, Honky Tonk WOmen is Detroit, never heard that SB recording,
but Sweet Little Sixteen and Brown SUgar seem to be from Houston July 19th,
that was the part I listened to last night.
Somebody please confirm

edit:
Beast Of Burden and Honky Tonk Women def. Detroit, previously unreleased.
But Sweet Little Sixteen, Brown Sugar and JJFlash comes from Houston,
unless even the best sources has been wrong that info, which I doubt.

They dont offer downloads only streaming. Original idea was supposedly at some point in the future downloads would be sold when royalty issues were worked out. But since now there are lawsuits for just offering it for listening by streaming, thinking that may never happen. Now they pay "radio" royalties, so they believe what they are doing is allowable.

You can't judge a book by looking at the cover.
But anyway great that more and more things turn up from the vaults. Bill Graham recorded many Stones shows, so let's hope this is a start! Thanks to the people from Wolfgang's Vault.

I love the 78 tour. The Stones the way they should sound, raw and dirty!
Great comment by Jagger after @#$%&, telling security to let the people stand up if they want. He won't do that anymore.

I find it quite plausible that all of it is from Detroit, and all the previous information regarding locations was wrong. Can't wait to listen!

Many thanks for doing the homework Erik and everyone else who weighed in. This is very cool and one of the things I love about this board.

Makes me wonder what else they might have in the Vault, especially the 81-82 tour which Graham was heavily involved in, or maybe a 72 nugget (we can only hope).

I record from WV by sending the audio stream directly into the analog input of my CD burner. Crude but effective.

The pre-Layla release Derek and the Dominos stuff is worth checking out as is the Elvis/Attractions set from their prime days.

The few times I've been at wolfgangs vault, I only saw familiar soundboard stuff, like..
Rolling Thunder Revue Plymouth 75, Bowie Montreal 83, The Band LA 1974...etc,
so I didn't expect any gems to show up.
I wonder how a recording of that radio-stream will be like.

I've been on the WV mailing list for about a month and this is the first RS thing they've released. Maybe more will soon follow?!! I've listened to a few other things out there too. It's a pretty good service, and it's free!

I really like this show, especially TD into and through Happy.

BG did all the West Coast shows 69-81. Surely they can release one little old '72 like San Diego? Or Denver?

Some cool stuff here, but so far, the compilation I made of "The Best of Handsome Girls" sounds as good as most of Wolfgang's show, since most of those songs come from that Detroit show.

Yes, I am inclined to agree. There's this big possibility we all had it wrong since '78, and the last three songs are actually from Detroit. I do not hear a difference in sound for example, and ALL Wolfgang's tapes were always from one show, there was no splicing or anything.

And please put a headphone set on and LISTEN TO BILL WYMAN!

Sorry. The Stones should have quite when Bill left.

This is fantastic! Even though a lot of this is already on Handsome Girls, I for one am grateful to get some more unheard 78 stuff in fantastic quality smiling smiley

I think that's correct, after listening more closely.

Mathijs, you scored a few points with me in that reference to Wyman's playing, but then turned around and lost me again with the "retirement" comment.

You win some, you lose some. That's the way it goes.

Too bad we're on different continents. I'd like to play some music with you.

Well, they don't have to retire, thre's enough people still enjoying it.

If ever your in Amsterdam, you're invited to a jam session at my home place, with plenty to drink!

Happy is a GREAT version! Excellent show Guitars are fantantastic (I hear weaving!) Bill is outstanding Charlie (great playing with lots of spaces) Mick is on top. This keeps reminding me why I love their music. BTW agree with Mathijs about Keith. Solution for the upcoming shows is : rehearse rehearse rehearse, if needed with a coach for ***sake! It can be done if they are willing. Not saying the improvements will be massive but it would be better for sure. Somebody in the rehearsels has to tell Keith you can only do so much of those one tone wailing solo's in a concert!

By the way: Happy and Sweet Little Sixteen are from the same show. You hear Keith hit the open strings after he changed his guitar after Happy, and the same sound is at the intro of Sweet L16.

It seems we were wrong for 29 years, the last thee songs are from Detroit.

Glad I'm not the only one who was wrong,
come to think of it, I never heard any audience tapes of the 2 Texas shows of 78, well this was a neat surprise.

Perhaps Wolfgang's Vault have misinformed us about the locations & it's not all from Detroit after all: Have you heard Mick's banter after Sweet Little 16? Sounds to me like he's shouting 'Awright! Awright...Awright Houston'(with the emphasis on '-ston'.

Yep, Brown Sugar is definitely from the Houston show....

This is truly great news---new '78--very nice to come from after a long day.

2 questions from reading this thread:

How was it determined what songs on Handsome Girls came from which shows? Does the cover specify--mine did not. I mean some are obvious--Just My Imagination is from Detroit and Honky Tonk Women sure seems like it is from Memphis.

And, Gazza--when you say Out On Bail is from the Passaic show "except for a few minutes" what did you mean by that? Never heard that one before and that show sounds pretty contiguous--are there songs from another venue?

Britney, have you compared with the Houston audience source ?
I don't have that one.
In one way, it sounds like a complete Detroit broadcast,
but I can't believe we were wrong all along about these sources, I can't even find my Detroit 78 tape...
