Sounds like the complete soundboard! Is this already out there in circulation?

Haven't listened to it, but 99% of the bootlegs are wrong about the sources for the 78 SB recordings, so I'll bet Wolfgang is wrong too.
Even Swingin Pig and Dandelion didn't get it correct.

Theres no complete soundboard of Detroit in circulation. As they did with the 73 and 81 broadcasts, KBFH had a habit of giving false information about the '78 broadcasts (announced as 'Memphis' or 'Lexington') as if they were from one show, Bootleggers subsequently did the same.

Some of the songs definitely come from Detroit as evidenced by some of Jagger's comments during the songs ("All the girls in Detroit" during "Just My Imagination" if I remember right) but the only soundboard from 1978 which features a complete concert is Fort Worth (which wasnt a broadcast but which was taped for an unreleased concert movie). Passaic has a full show, save for a couple of minutes.

The shows in Memphis, Lexington, Houston and Detroit feature on the various KBFH broadcasts, but none of the shows exist as a complete soundboard.

That's true Gazza,
and Detroit is the show with the fewest tracks available in SB quality on those broadcasts/bootlegs, save for Memphis with 2 tracks only.
Lexington and Houston are better represented, which is a shame because Detroit is probably the best of them all.

Too much to hope for I guess. But it sure got me excited when I got the mail from Wolfgang on my work computer. I'm a little surprised they portrayed it as a complete show since they seem to want to be viewed as having unique material and this undermines that credibility.

Theres an incredible version of Tumbling Dice on the Handsome Girls boot which comes from either that show or the one in Houston (its the one where Mick introduces it as saying "Keith has lost his pick - has anyone got a pick for Keith?) and then they do this wonderfully ragged and glorious long intro to the song. The outro to it is something else as well. Probably my favourite ever live version of the song.

Yes, that's the Detroit version of Tumbling Dice!

THere's 7 songs from Detroit in SB quality:
Let It Rock - When The Whip Comes Down - Miss You,
Imagination - Love In Vain - Tumbling Dice - Happy

While there's 11 from Houston and 10 from Lexington on the circulating CDs.

Not while theyre still a working band, I would imagine.
I'm sure it'll be one of the ones in circulation anyway.

Me too, makes one wonder...
what will be the first/only official "previously unreleased" Stones album...
I'll bet Charlie Is My Darling, Ladies & Gentlemen on DVD,
or some 60s TV appearances on DVD and CD,
can't imagine any "new" material will show up, they wouldn't bother to listen through their show, well maybe CHuck could.

I doubt 'Charlie is my darling' will ever be released officially and there would probably be too many licensing and copyright wrangles for them to release a collection of TV appearances. L&G would probably be the most likely, as they must be aware there's a demand for material from that era.

I know BG did the West Coast shows for '78....wouldnt be suprised if he also produced this show. But his name is not on my ticket stub from Greensboro that year. I personally dont doubt that its a soundboard from Detroit '78. Not because of what's already around that it verifies, but because of the source, since these are part of the tapes of what was the Bill Graham Archives. Everything coming out of there is authentic, and all soundboard, and includes some great Muddy stuff as well..lots good blues in there actually. Whether or not its complete, Im sure ya'll know better than me. Still pretty bad quality SBs on a few shows...they just dont come across or were really badly mixed.

I've only visited that Wolfgang web-page a brief moment, but to me it looked like everything there were well-known bootleg material, no surprises at all.
Am I wrong about this? Somebody please confirm.

Its the Bill Graham Archives...not a boot site. Some guy bought the Archives for a few million last year is slowing putting them up...Click on "Concerts" to see all the shows they have up currently. I like the Fillmore East Who 1968 one, Muddy Waters 1966, among quite a few. Wolfgang was Bill Graham's given name at birth. Lotsa stuff you dont want to hear also.....lol

Yes, it's a very nice page, didn't mean that it wasn't, I just meant that all his audio comes from allready existing bootlegs, not any "private source".

yes that was how I understand you...no problem. I have collected BG stuff since the days of the Fillmore so am very familiar with what theyve been doing over the years. It was a big deal and in all the media in the States when the archives was sold. Theres tons, including video as well, in there. What actually makes it to see the light of day we have to wait. The one I heard is in there and would love to see is a video of the Who show in San Francisco in the late sixties. Keith Moon passes out as they are playing..they finish the tune and then Pete says "anybody play drums?"...and a high school guy gets up and finishes the show with them. I heard a long radio interview with the guy who bought it all and he said thay have that on video. but yeh, its all one source, they recorded almost everything. In fact they are being sued by various musicians now for putting the shows up.

Maybe Bill Graham were in charge of recording such shows as the Who, I don't know those things. But that footage seems to be on boot-DVD

yeh! thats it!...damn I could see it already !! haha...great. Like I said I dont know whats out there....dont have time to keep up. I only know what happened with the deal of the archives being sold and the site was put up after that to distribute it (since a lot of it was posters etc- overpriced in my opinion). Thanks for turning me on to that

I think that might have actually happened in 1973 possibly at the Cow Palace in San Francisco..

well..just had a quick listen to "Shattered" from that streaming Detroit show..and to my ears it sounds like a different version to the KBFH recordings which are on Handsome Girls and which come from Memphis & Lexington.

Anyone else think the same? If so, looks like we have another "find"....

HTW is also different than the version from Houston thats on Handsome Girls (the only KBFH version of this song thats available), so yep, it seems this is the real deal! Great to see this surface at last.

Far Away Eyes and Respectable are missing, but 16 out of 18 is most welcome
