I'm known for never having my phone turned on, just ask CindyC,
I can't stand it when that damn thing rings, and I have to put it in my face and be close to both kissing and licking it.

Umberto Ecco would probably say it has something to do with time and space being flattened out or shattered by new technologies. People lose perspective or continuity.

Other philosophers have said:

everythings going in the wrong direction.....

you better stop look around, here it comes here it comes .............

its just that deamon life got you in his sway.........

exactly Nico....good for you...we don't have to put up with other people's rude behavior. Today my cell phone rang while I was having breakfast with a client. It was my ten year old daughter on the other end who I haven't seen since Thursday. I told her I would have to cal her back.....I don't think my client really wants to hear me ask my daughter how her school is going and blah, blah, blah.....

Im not proud to say this, but I pretend to be on the phone when Im at school and theres people who want you to sign a petition or join a ralley. what they do is spread out so you cant get through without having to talk to one of them. I know its pretty bad. But, I just dont always have the time to talk to them about these complex issues when Im trying to get to class or get my paper printed out or something.

At orientation at my University last fall there was a special assembly for the new students. During the whole thing you could hear the kid's in the audience’s cell phones beep, the damn things light up as they read what the text message says, whisper with their friends, look down the row at the person who had texted them, then the sound of them frantically typing a new message, send it, then the whole thing repeat over and over again. This is how they treat the people who are welcoming them to their college? I was really appalled.
It also annoys me that people will allow their cell phones to go off in the middle of class. They will turn the damn thing off when it rings, but when the professor gives them a reproving look they don’t seem to understand what they did wrong. I always make sure my cell phone is on vibrate or silent in class or meetings or anything like that.

All this technology ain't bad. It's only bringing the wacked out people out of the closet. And the only bad thing about the internet is we only have 16 hours a day to surf. Sleeping takes up too much time. Can't wait till they find a cure for that. smiling smiley

It's a simple thing called respect which sadly is not comprehended by many today. You seem to get it! How refreshing. There's hope for mankind afterall!

I hear ya. The technology is fine, just use a little common courtesy (uncommon these days).

Ditto a-hole "fans" at concerts. We had an idiot pogoing next to us at a Ronnie Wood show one night. He finally realized that about 50 Stones fans were fixing to beat his brains out and left.

The cell phone thing is way out of control! It is making people so insensitive. A bunch of people together, but they are talking to other people on cell phones.

I am an elementary school teacher (5-7year olds). When a parent comes and picks up their kid, they continue to chat with their friend. They don't even say hello to their child. What are they teaching their children? You do not matter? 'I would rather talk to a friend than you'. No more 'How was your day?" "I love you", or " I missed you". Not even an acknowledgment of the person even being there. Very scary!

But then again, we are typing instead of talking to a friend or meeting others.hmmmm. Ah, it is easier to critisize others than look in the mirror.

And here we all are -- have you talked to a member of your family today?

(Yup. My daughter is perched in front of the TV, and I'm typing this. 21st century family togetherness, such as it is.)

I once stood talking to a guy, and I pigeon was standing next to us. Suddenly the guy threw himself towards the pigeon and grabbed it, it wasn't hurt or anything, but it was really strange. He never had a mobile phone, I understand now.

Erik - do you do that just when you are talking to me, or with everyone?

BTW, I called you the other day and some weird lady was speaking some weird language. I said "learn English you stupid foreigner". Sometimes you just have to break out the tough love to help people.

yes Erik.....kissing and licking a telephone, or any inanimate object for that matter, is rather bizarre behavior.......is that something you people do in Norway, this kissing and licking of a telephone?
