Rumours are gathering...

Of the three acts they listed on Friday as "rumoured" headliners, they got two of them right. The third headliner is yet to be announced and the rumoured act theyve listed is the Stones

They're quoting IORR... And we're quoting them. I seriously doubt they'll be willing to play a festival - if it's not the Al Gore Carbon neutral Live World thing.

thats on 7th July. with a few shows strongly slated to be in south-east Europe around that time and the Stones not listed in the press release for that gig, i think its safe to rule them out of that one.

They've been added in a fresh, updated press release today, along with U2. As actc who have not yet been confirmed - but will be shortley...
That would be the ultimate gig for me. I'm so proud of the Stones - that they're taking responsability, buying carbon quotas for the tour etc. They make a difference - and show the way to a lot of people.

I've never seen Bon Jovi. Are they that bad?

Saw Bon Jovi open for the Stones in Paris, Voodoo Lounge Tour. I thought they sucked, but most of the audience liked them, maybe because they were a "name". I guarantee, though, that there were very few in that audience who didn't realise that the Stones blew them away big time. I rarely enjoy support acts at Stones gigs, particularly if its in a stadium and I've had to do a bit of travelling to get there, even if I like the band. Sorry, but I'm there to see the Stones and nobody else. Don't fancy seeing them churning out the warhorses at a festival, either. Maybe it's an age thing 'cos I loved Knebworth '76 (but come on, they're not going to produce a set-list like that again for a festival, are they?

I was at those shows, Teleblaster (Managed to skip Bon Jovi on day one as I'd snagged a VIP pass, but thats another story)

No escaping their drivel on day #2 though, but from where I was standing in that vast field, even in that downpour, it seemed apparent to me who the crowd were there to see.

Agree with you suport acts in general and especially about the sort of show you can expect a festival.

We took the Metro to Longchamps and met a young woman with her parents. She was about 18 and had won a contest to see Bon Jovi in Paris. It wasn't until she spoke with us that she found out they were opening for the Stones and were not the headliner! Came all the way from the US and nobody told her!!

Serves her right for having no taste. Ah well, I hope at least she 'saw the light' and amended her errant ways afterwards.

I attended the second gig, the one with the storm (my first Stones' concert). I remember that their first number (Hey God) was good, but later on it was almost unbearable, and I got a serious headache, which of course stopped as soon as "Not Fade Away" (and the heavy rain) started.

According to the efestivals.co.uk message board Ben Jones of Virgin Radio (the official radio station of the IOW festival) said tonight on Solent TV news that the third headliner is an act that's been around for years (around forty!) and are absoulutely huge. He then went onto say every other festival will be very, very jealous.......I think I'll be buying tickets when they go on sale!!

I wonder if it is Genesis. Their European tour starts the next day.

Could be-they were rumoured a few months ago but have kinda been forgotten about now.

I've been to the IOW festival twice (2004 & 2006) and I really can't see the stones playing there. Compared to something like Glastonbury it's small and gets very little coverage or t.v time.......though looking at the acts already booked it's gonna need someone big to sell tickets.

It's a good weekend away though so I'll probably buy some tickets and might possibly get lucky....

As said earlier however, the Stones European promoter is John Giddings who also promotes the IOW festival. Whilst its a smaller festival than Glastonbury, that link might have been influential if they have indeed decided to sign to play it.

Yeah I guess so.

I was aware that the company who run the IOW festival (Solo) are owned by Clearchannel who have had business connections with the stones in the past so it could all tie in.

The announcement of Sundays headline act is obviously being held back to avoid the festival selling out on the strength of one act. It will probably be announced a fortnight after tickets have been on sale. Hopefully some more information will materialise over the next couple of days.

Interesting that tickets went on sale this morning even though the headlining act to close the show on the Sunday is yet to be announced...

I'd like to think that they'll hold some tickets back for the benefit of fans of whoever the main headliner turns out to be.

From what I'm hearing, it will indeed be the Stones. I guess we'll find out pretty soon. Very bad organisation though on the Stones' part if it is, however. What a fiasco,

It was reported on XFM radio in Scotland today that the Stones would be headlining, but still no officiaL anouncement.

I think I've bust a button on my trousers....

That it's "almost 100% certain". Still, I wouldnt take the risk of forking out £125 for a ticket just yet only to find out that its bloody Genesis.
