OT: Even MORE Band Reunions (See List) - Is This Really Necessary ?
Posted by: HelterSkelter ()
Date: February 13, 2007 11:35

Taken from the new ROLLING STONE. Now that we have the good luck of The Police getting back together so we can hear ROXEANNE properly - uh - Here's some more "REUNITERS" coming to a Rock Hall near you (maybe):

Best to Worst:

RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE - Yeah, AUDIOSLAVE is cool but I sometimes do miss old Zack De La Rocha and his political rants - there's room for both bands IMHO. No Tour Plans yet, just The Coachella Festival so far.

SMASHING PUMPKINS - well, this would be pretty exciting except so far it's only Billy Corgan and drummer Jimmy Chamberlin. James Iha and D'arcy Wretzky are not involved at this point so it's only half a pumpkin - whole would be MUCH better. New album being recorded at this very moment......

VAN HALEN - already mentioned a lot on IORR. Eddie kicked out Michael Anthony and put his kid Wolfgang (15 yrs old) on Bass. Roth has aged super strange. He just doesn't look like a Lead Singer any more (maybe fronting a Polka Outfit) 40 shows this summer. I don't know - 3 brothers/sons and a middle aged goofball ? I can't get past Eddie and his antics - reviews better be RED HOT - no new album planned

GENESIS (last AND least) The Phil Genesis - NO Peter Gab. No Steve Hac. This is the pop, MOR Musak version. WOW, can STYX, JOURNEY, and KANSAS be far behind ?
.
Not too crazy about this list - who do you want to see "DO IT ONE MORE TIME?" The Zeppers?, Pink Floyd?, Paul and Ringo? leave your choices here....

The Kinks, ive said it again and will keep saying it.
Floyd is my first choice, but since theyve already been mentioned, i dont need to say it again.

I thought DAVE DAVIES (Ray's brother) had a Stroke...was it minor? Is he alright? That would be a good one....

Journey and Styx and Foreigner have all been touring during the past year.
The line-ups are not entirely original, but I believe the majority of these respective bands are comprised of original members/founders.

Yikes.

The unholy three. The bands that give true meaning to "sucking in the seventies."

And they're back? Say it ain't so.

I thought Cream's reunion was really excellent and well-timed.

This year Styx, Foreigner, and Asia are doing several shows together.

How does that lineup sound?

The Jam (one of the decreasing list that can still return in their original line-up).

At a slight tangent: I can only really admire these come-backs if they're prepared to produce new material. I know The Who tried it and it didn't amount to much but hats off to them anyway. Problem is 'the younger' audiences only want to hear the hits. And as Stones fans don't we just know that! That's the beauty of The Stones, never silly enough to retire then have to hatch some sort of reunion bash. Seeing themselves thru until the end.

so true, loogie, so true, but let's not forget poor ol' REO Speedwagon....don't they deserve a dishonrable mention amongst these watered-down bland rock bands?

....but they didn't really bottom out on the suck-o-meter until the 1980's

As ROLLINGSTONE says, think you can only judge if new material is provided and its worthwhile. Two bands that have re-formed with excellent results IMO are Mission of Burma and the Buzzcocks.

I read that Paul Weller did all Jam songs at one of his three recent NYC shows, and said he enjoyed it. Might bode well for a Jam reunion!

Journey, Styx, Reo, Foreigner, Survivor and you can throw in Chicago, Kansas and Boston as far as I'm concerned. All bland,'faceless' groups but despite what we may think of them musically they paved the way for Stadium Rock Tours as a concept.

Is it true that when George Michael did a show somewhere in the UK, they did not give him a key to the city but a key to the mens room ???

This was actually a bit of a stretch. He did like, 10 Jam songs, with the rest of the set being solo material. People who flew in from all over the world might not have been thrilled by this.

He says no way to a Jam reunion.

I love Reunions, except if you try to get back the old day's.

About as necessary as it is for the Stones to tour again, I'd say. Why not?

It would really be nice to see The Smiths get it together again. In the US their fan based exploded only after their demise.

James have also reformed. I hate this Reform Age, it's all money and what is the point? People like James and Genesis are limited in fan-base anyway, so why bother?

The need for reunions? Absolutely. It serves to further illustrate how far the "rock" scene has sunk.

The Red Hot Chili Peppers' drummer perfectly said it when they were awarded a Grammy the other night: "We need MORE rock bands!"
