This one has a ferocity which is nearly unbelievable. Keith's guitar has so much dirt in it, it sounds like he's blown out the speakers. Lovely. I'd previously thought that the MSG version on "Four Flicks" was the best of the 21st century, but this one is extraordinary. The train is chuggin' down the tracks, and it's unstoppable. Just when you think it's gonna slow down, the gears shift into high once more. Charlie, oh, Charlie. Magnificent.
Put it on, and crank it up. The best rock n roll band EVER shows that they still have it. A Vegas act? You gotta be f*ckin' kiddin' me.

Ah yes tuff stuff....especially mid way thru when Keith comes up behind Mick....Then Mick reaches back and touches Keith's guitar before going back into harmonica battle....AHHH that's a Glimmer heart jerker
I agree -- that Saitama show is wonderful. I remember watching it for the first time and being awestruck with the sheer power of 'Midnight Rambler' -- a supreme version of the song, absolutely thrilling stuff
I particularly like the start/stop bit towards the end that gets that train a rollin' one more time for the big finale. Some nights they nail it better than others and this is one of those nights!
Saitama is great, but I was lucky enough to have seen the MSG Four Flicks show in person, and let me tell you . . . seeing "Rambler" that night was arguably the greatest moment of my musical life.
Oh, a "Midnight Rambler" thread -- I'm in heaven! Listening to the Leeds version today in the car (over and over, Doggie knows I'm nuts, but I think he's deaf anyway). But "Bitch" might have been the winner at that show.
But, can someone steer me to the Saitama dvd? I mean, you put that little visual in my head and now I MUST see what you're talking about. Help?
I love Saitama, but I think the best pro-shot DVD of the ABB tour is from Buenos Aires. It's more dirty and it simply just rocks more. Saitama is a bit clean, but still a good performance.
best latter-era MR I've heard or seen - San Jose I from the NS tour. It was filmed for what turned out to be a "dead" project - but it was clear the boys were pulling no stops for the cameras.....
I think when people talk about the "Vegas Era", they don't mean that the Stones are a Vegas act........they're just talking about all the glitz and show biz glamour and the back up singers and the army of horn and keyboard players. It just seems to have a Las Vegas aura to it as if it's all about the show..the spectacle ya know. I don't think anybody is implying that they should be a Vegas lounge act.....they're just saying that the show they do these days sometimes has a glitzy Vegas-like feel to it.....

Thanks very much for posting this. Yes, the guitars are great, and it swings but the keyboards piss me off royally in this, playing over the top of all the gaps that make this such a dynamic song. Why can't he shut up and let the guitars take the stage. Why so loud in the mix?
Is it some lack of trust that the guitars might screw up that the keys have to be playing something all the time?
