Well if your not counting Steel Wheels I would say Licks but only if you are talking about the early part of the tour.

I would say, every tour or year had its own climax, I wouldn't commit myself to a special year. May be Licks, 40th anniversary of the Stones?
One argument for Licks would be that the Stones broke the mold of touring through 100 large stadiums, and having a really variable setlist with rarely played songs.
Yes, so, Licks!

I´ve seen them all ONCE and only ONCE. Maybe 1998, or 2003, or..

Very difficult!

If you take everything..the flim flam.....remove it...you still got the greatest R&R band raw and honest....so why not??

The best strategy for a tour: Licks, but there were ups and downs all the way in every tour.

The Steel Wheels tour gets slagged off on these boards, but I loved it. I recall the feeling I had in 1989 sitting in New Orleans Superdome wondering if my heroes could pull it off. It had been a very long time since December 5, 1981. My God, what a stage...no one had ever witnessed anything like that before. I thought the show was great. I loved the singers, the horns....I saw the New Barbarians....so I have no romantic notions about the backing vocals of Keith and Ronnie. The entire show was the best. Every tour tries to top Steel Wheels........some come closer than others.

And Vegas?? When I think of Vegas...its Elvis...or M Ali...both heroes of mine..Presley..was great even in the end...just great...Ali was to but he didnt have no Lisa or Bernard!!!...in the end Ali boxed 2 fights against HOLMES..AND bERBICK???lAST hURAY?....UYES THAT WAS the end and it was Vegas like..thats drama...in R&R we that too...I thought the last time i saw them was pretty raw...like a dream..a drunk dream...but recorded..but from fos raw!..No Vegas act would play ONNYA right??? ahhh blues!!

Vegas-era....a bit derogatory...more like lets actually go out an play without being too stoned to care?

Semantics!

any way the best tour since the '89 comeback in IMHO.

No Security
Voo Doo Lounge
Urban Jungle....because of the way they came back.
Licks

If I believe in a Vegas act...its gotta be 1990.

they've all had great moments...My faves were Orpeum, Boston, MA (Parachute Woman), and Baltimore, MD (tightest show I have ever seen since 1975)..

Where is the tape!!!!

There hasn't been much variance... The Vegas era covers a quite large amount of their existence: 18 years, soundtracked by four mediocre albums, and bloody many gigs and $$$$$$$$ and zillion time stratmeups, jumpingjackflashes, brownsugars, honkytonkwomens.... pick any tour. Difference is in nuances. Perhaps the underwear tour.

I got to see the Stones in '81 (my 1st Stones shows), and I understand the Vegas reference. I would say my fave since then was NS, maybe because it was different, being an arena tour and all. My least fave has always been '89. But, as I read previous posts, I do recall those shows & they really were better than I've been giving them credit for. As I think back, maybe, the only thing I didn't like about those shows was Mick's hair!?!

I haven't seen any of them in person.......but I've heard them all on mulitple bootlegs.

I like the Steel Wheels/Urban Jungle tours the best out of the "Vegas" era tours......

but if we're only talking about post Urban Jungle tours, then I think the Licks Tour had the best concept.......also liked No Security and A Bigger Bang.

Voodoo Lounge was great, but then I didn't like Bridges as much as most. I thought the the energy level was down from VL. But then they came back with a bang with No Security... loved it. No Security had some great set lists too. Moonlight Mile was a real treat.

i'd go with NS based on playing execution alone, although Ronnie contributed very little. Licks gets honorable mention, but KR's chops had dropped precipitously in that 3-year span.....

I'd say Licks. The stadium/arena/theatre concept worked great,
and the setlists for the most part were interesting.
