Shit, Elvis, Frank Sinatra, Liberace, Dean Martin, Bing Crosby, Ronnie Van Zant or Freddie Mercury, all in their present state, would be a better choice. Heck, even Tony Orlando......

I'll absolutely agree that having his 15 year old son replace Michael Anthony is a big joke......I guess that's why it's a summer tour.......they gotta wait for him to get out of school for the summer holidays. I've read it here and other places that it's all money etc.... Come on folks they sold something like 60 mill + with Roth and 40 mill + with Hagar, top grossing tours.....they ain't broke. One of my fav. bands of all time but I wonder what the hell is wrong with Eddie the last few years. I loved all the albums/cd's but I cannot see Roth singing songs like 5150 ,Dreams,Summer Nights,The Seventh Seal,etc..Roth will blow live and I know it.Hagar did a great job on the old tunes but I think this tour will make a great band look BAD! Tell me , why is/was VH so popular in USA/Canada but don't seem to be so hot elsewhere??

I agree with everything you say except---Sammy, imo, did NOT do a good job on the Roth era tunes--clearly his heart was not in it and he really did not sound that great---he would constantly screw up the words.

I suspect they will steer clear of the Sammy songs. Expect Eddie to say something snarky like "I never got to play those songs because Sam refused to do them and it has been 20 years".

As for the money......whatever Eddie had in 2002, he now has 1/2 of that amount. I don't care how much you are worth, that is a big hit. Also, I have read where Alex (divorced twice) has been cleaned out.

I think VH has been hurt by their refusal not to tour outside of the US, for the most part. In all the yrs Sammy was in the band, they did a grand total of one tour of Europe. They did go to Japan where I believe they are pretty popular.

Roth should sing the songs he originally sang and forget the Van Hagar songs .....and vice versa for Hagar.

Roth will manage to show his ass with or without the assless pants.

Yeah, musicians seem to have the unique ability to blow all their money no matter how many millions they've earned. I guess we should be glad because it keeps them on the road. Now if only David Gilmour and Roger Waters would develop massive gambling addictions ...

So true! Does anyone have a copy of VH doing "Get Down Tonight" from the early days? I'd like to hear their version as most of their covers have been good.

Roth NEVER was a great singer, but he was and is a stellar frontman-showman-raconteur. I have seen him several times solo, the last time being at the Hammersmith Apollo, London in February 2004. It was wall-to-wall 'Halen tunes and one could not really have wanted for anything else from a rock gig. The only thing that was outta keeping with previous times I have seen him live, was the lack of exuberant banter with the crowd, but that aside, the gig was superlative entertainment.

I share most people's reservations about "Wolfie" on bass, but hell, ya never know. Interestingly, I was chatting to an acquaintance at a New Year party, who is also a Van Halen fan. Upon discussion of a rumoured reunion he passed comment that Michael Anthony is actually a bad to mediocre bass player. I was taken aback by this, coz I always though he was great, however this acquaintance is a technically accomplished musician, so I guess he should know..... Perhaps "Wolfie" will bring in that musical dynamism that will take it to another level?

I'm more worried about Eddie than Wolfie.

Even if Anthony was in the line-up= no me in the seat's. I've seen these guy's three times once in the early 80's around 84 at the Los Angeles forum and it was the worst concert i have ever seen. I could not even decifer the song's they played,it was so loud and a destorted mess and DLR,was horrible the other two times was with Hammy it was alot better it seem''s when Hammy was there at least it was a half way decent show in regard's to sound, alot more control then withDLR, The band with DLR is a TRainwreck imo live back then, and i would imagine worse these day's.

As someone in this thread put it, replacing MA is not like replacing Chris Squire, lol.

While that is true, MA fit the band, because his bass lines needed to leave room for Eddie. As Eddie once said..."Micheal Anthony plays bass.He does not try to play guitar on bass, like Jack Bruce". Very true and a very good point.

MA's contribution was his awesome harmonies, which to me were a HUGE part of the VH sound and something that none of the legion of imitators could replicate.

Also, it is a pretty shabby way to treat someone who has been a loyal member of the band.

Perhaps they should, but that does not appear to be the case.

I will reserve judgment til they actually do something--but this has all the earmarks of a money-grab and that usually oes not result in inspired music.

I am hoping for the best, but my expectations are pretty low.

I've been waiting for a Van Halen reunion tour but I'm not seeing them without Michael Anthony. And I don't know what Roth's like these days... anyone?

Good point, but at least Page and Plant called themselves Page and Plant and not Led Zeppelin. I think they left out Jones because A)they didn't want the pressure/comparisons/expectations of touring as Zeppelin and cool smileythey probably figured they'd have a better chance of getting through the tour without strangling each other if there were two big egos instead of three. And I'm sure money figured in there.

I loved Plant's (semi) tongue in cheek response when asked why they didn't include Jones: "Because a million dollars split two ways is more than a million dollars split three ways!"

This tour is going to be a trainwreck. Eddie is a raging drunk who can only get a bass player by threatening to cut off his allowance. Alex is just a dumbass. Roth is a hairplugged old drag queen pretending he's still 25.

I'm betting Valeri pulls the plug on 16 year old Wolfie going on the road with this bunch.

That said, if they come to my town, morbid curiosity will no doubt get the better of me.
