youre welcome - presumably was never released because it was well out of date by the time the DVD era kicked off.

The superb 'Let it Bleed' documentary from 2002, which used some of the same interviews and footage as '25 x 5' and released in tandem with '40 Licks', would have been the ideal visual release to mark their 40th anniversary,

Another wasted opportunity, unfortunately

I picked this up on eBay a couple of yrs ago. It was a Japanese release and looks like it was an official release, there are parts that contain Japanese sub titles and the quality is very good.

I understand it is somewhat outdated, but it is really first rate and deserving of a re-release. With the exception of Jann Wenners interview with Mick in '95 in RS, I think it is the most candid I have ever seen Mick in talking about the band's history.

I have shown this to many people who are, at best, casual fans and w/o fail, they all love it.

I assume you're talking about the Let It Bleed documentary.

We might have to wait for "5 Decadent Decades With The Rolling Stones"

Yes. I like the Let it Bleed documentary (Thanks again winking smiley), but it's kindda messy. You can feel that good information is flying around your ears, but it's all scattered in the wind. Never did the line "The answer my friend is blowing in the wind" fit better than on this documentary. I still like it though. Parts of it are amazing.

25x5 was like treasure map for me, being 16 and starting to get into the Stones seriously at the time.
It helped me grow a fascination for the band and its members I would have hardly developed otherwise.

Weird. I was exactly 16 when I saw it the first time too. It also helped me get into it all very much. Similar paths.

I was 9 when I saw it, terrific movie,
but Rewind was even more exciting, I think, especially those short glimpses of Midnight Rambler 72 and Keith hitting that guy in 81...and the sex and the blood in the Undercover videos.

I guess there was a laserdisc edition of 25x5.
So there are probably great bootleg DVDs circulating.

Since laserdiscs were mostly sold in Japan, that is probably why Glass Side has a great DVD of it with japanese subtitles.

Weird, I was also 16 when I saw it. I had just got into the Stones via Hot Rocks and was fascinated by the whole thing. I remmember Charlie's classic line about Brian

'He liked drink and drugs but I don't think they were very good for him'!

25X5 was cool, at the time all I had was two tapes and Love You Live.
It made me discover the old Stones I didn't know, the Richimond years, songs like Mercy Mercy, and of course finding out more about their personalities.

There were a few parts I digged the most, the shot of Keith with the white jacket talking to Stu sitting at the piano with Love In Vain in the background, I'd rewind the tape tons of times to learna that intro, or Mick making fun of a 6 years old Keith with ears stuck out and a Roy Rogers hat.

Priceless.

Noooooooooooo! Did you get it out? Do you still have the VCR? If yes, don't fret. hehe. Take off the cover, borrow some bolt cutters or pliers or a sledge hammer & hack at that thing till you get it out. I've been there & I feel for you.

I feel a bit sorry for the boys about this. It was a really good release in 1989, then their old arch rivals The Beatles released The Anthology in BOOK form, VIDEO/DVD form and NINE CD form! If the Stones had done that we'd be in heaven!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: 25X5

wasnt the Anthology just 6 discs (3 volumes of double discs)?

In fairness, we got a couple of good books too ('On the Road' and 'According to...') in recent years, but a multi-video/DVD set would have been incredible, I agree.

However, its harder to do something like that for a band's history where the final chapters havent been written yet.

Not too mention that it will take a lot of time to remove Brian, Bill and Mick Taylor from all the footage.

Yeah, it is most definitely 25x5. Like I said the quality is very good and the laser disc explanation makes perfect sense. As I remember the price was reasonable and they were selling multiples of them (no auction).
