Following 'You Gotta Be' Des'ree received a lot of airplay on DC-Virginia-Maryland pop radio with 'Feel So High.' I guess it must not have charted high enough nationally or internationally to count as a second hit, but I and others bought both songs.

Incense and Peppermint.....by the Strawberry Alarm Clock

Trivia:

Ed King played in Strawberry Alarm Clock. That's right, the same Ed King that later joined Lynyrd Skynyrd.

Yeah, he wrote the music to "Sweet Home Alabama". The Strawberry Alarm Clock was also in the movie "Return to the Valley of the Dolls" or VOTD Part 2 - something like that - you get the idea. They were playing at a party, Yep, there's future Skynyrd man Ed. This movie is so bad that it's best viewed while heavily sedated. Pretty women though.

Wasn't Rupert Holmes with the Escape Song aka the Pina Colada song a one hit wonder?

Even my kids like

Popcorn - Hot Butter

Great brass arrangement on

(Is this the way to) Amarillo - Tony Christy

And I still like

Oh babe (what would you say) - Hurricane Smith

I know these songs may sound trivial but of course they bring back memories and you can still enjoy them. Some artists, though, only have the potential for a one-hit-wonder.

Other hits that come to mind are

You're so vain - Carly Simon
When I'm dead and gone - McGuiness Flint
Rock'n'roll I gave you all the best years of my life - Kevin Johnson

Now guess at what time I was young...

In 1958 when Elvis got drafted, Jerry lee was banned, The Everlys broke up, Little Richard went into gospel and Chuck Berry was jailed, untill The Beatles hit in '64, the void of chart dominating superstars created the golden era of one-hit wonders. Some of the great one-hit songs of the period include classics like: Sea Cruise, Alley-Oop, Tossin' And Turnin', Endless Sleep, Duke Of Earl ,Hey Paula, The Lion Sleeps Tonight, Mashed Potato Time, The Locomotion, Mockingbird, Monster Mash, Do You Love Me, and most all of the Doo-Wop hits like Why Do Fools Fall In Love, Come Go With Me, Daddy's Home ect. among many, many others. If you had a good record it would get played. People had hit records on their own label that were recorded in their garrage.

Hurricane Smith! I love that song!
That was on one of those compilation 8-tracks that my family listened to over and over again during early vacations.
This sounds like a whole other thread...

"Great Vacation Albums"

Talk about guilty pleasures!
