Denny Doherty, the Canadian member of the Mamas and Papas, has died.

Denny sang lead on many of the Mamas and Papas hits like California Dreamin'.

He was a native of Halifax, Nova Scotia where the Stones played their first ever show last September.

R.I.P Denny. The Mamas and Papas were a huge part of the '60's music scene, thus a big part of my teen years. To this day, I love to listen to many of their songs.

So, that leaves Michelle and John, right? Or has John died too?

John is dead. Denny was a great singer. R.I.P.

I don't think many Canadians knew he was Canadian.

Before I discovered the Stones in 1968, The Mamas & Papas were my favorite group. To this day I love the music they created. It all remains so timeless. Today is another day the music died.

Someone asked about John Phillips and yes, he died in 2001. Mama Cass died in 1974 in London in the same apartment that Keith Moon would die in 4 years later.

Michelle Phillips is the only original member of the Mamas and Papas left.

Boah, I first read Pete Doherty.

Wow, sad news. Only a mama left.

I never knew much about this band except for the handful of songs you hear on the radio. Few years back there was a Behind the Music and a lot of it was interviews with Denny--came off as a very decent guy and clearly had an amazing voice.

I'm just a casual listener, as well, but this verse has always struck home with me during the winter......

"All the leaves are brown and the sky is gray
I've been for a walk on a winter's day.
I'd be safe and warm if I was in L.A.
California dreaming
On such a winter's day."

Saw John on TV saying that he wrote "I Saw Her Again Last Night" after catching Denny giving Michelle the eye. I think Denny actually gave her more than that.

Hmmm..I thought it was the other way around since Michelle was married to John...it was Denny who was "seeing" her on the side and feeling guilty about it and so penned the lyrics to that great song...maybe I'm wrong...

I really like that album more and more..it grew on me.....i have tha say its very laid back.
