OT: NEW Joni Mitchell Remasters

At long last, someone with taste and perspicacity has inspired Rhino to release fully remastered versions of two astoundingly good Joni Mitchell albums:

1. Court and Spark (superlative!!).
2. Hissing of Summer Lawns (not far behind!!).

Life is GOOD!

That's great news, I meet Joni last spring at a wedding she was invited to attend. Had a chat with her and can say she is very genuine lady.

I can't wait to hear a remastered Court and Spark. I think this album is her greatest, and is one of my favorite albums of all time. If you've never heard it, you're missing a masterpiece.

Sounds great.

Are there any plans to revamp (again) "Blue" or "Ladies Of The Canyon?"

Hmm, Lawns is not one of my favorites...Would be nice to hear "Hejira" & "Mingus", otherwise I return to "Blue" and "For The Roses" - but C&S was a very well recorded disc and should sound great remastered. Her first producer David Crosby's classic "If I Could Only Remember My Name (w/ Joni guesting along with half the Bay Area musicians union from 1971) has just come out in a cd/dvd audio double set, and it is well worth checking out as well, btw. Can't imagine such a work coming out today, let alone selling well...

There will be 3 remasters released initially. "Hejira" will also be released, according to the Steve Hoffman Music Forum.

Joni's albums from the 90's - Night Ride Home, Turbulent Indigo, and Taming the Tiger are superb. They are amongst her best work ever.

Are they ? That's interesting. The few things I've heard from the 90s didn't do me no good, nor her 80s albums. I'll check out those 3 albums you mentioned.

Wish she toured more often. Seeing her open for Dylan in '98 (and paying only $45 for a front row seat) was one of the best concert experiences I've had in recent years. Favourite Joni album: For The Roses.

What a stunning record. I've been lucky enough to spend a bunch of time around San Francisco and the Bay Area and the Crosby record can take me right to that place.

The new version is superb--loved the bonus "Kids And Dogs," as well.

turbulent indigo, I think, is the closest she comes to the fabulousness of Court and Spark. Just MHO.

I love Joni and yet I did not love Herjira or Mingus. My favorites are BLUE, which will always be one of my all-time favorite cds, Court and Spark, Miles of Aisles, For the Roses and Ladies of the Canyon. Hissing Of Summer Lawns I thought was a B+ cd and the rest that I named are A+. She was way ahead of her time! Jazzy, smart, great guitar player, incredibly fine voice!

to me blue is her masterpiece...and one of the greatest records ever put out...

its one of those records that when i find a good copy of the lp for a buck i'll buy it..regardless i got 10 at home...

some of her later stuff (not all) puts me to sleep and i think is very boring...

i saw her open for dylan twice..she did the crowd no favors...

Blue and Court and Spark, to me are required for any collections. Love those records.

I agree, totally, with Rooster--her music relaxes me. And, that is a good thing.

Also find it sooo cool that she plays in all of these unique tunings because of a handicap--that is pretty creative.

Weren't these remastered just a few years ago? If there are any bonus tracks I'll bite. I'm a huge Joni fan. My top 3:

HEJIRA
FOR THE ROSES
BLUE

Of her latter-day stuff I'm most fond of TAMING THE TIGER. I also hold SHADOWS AND LIGHT in high esteem as far as live albums go.

Yes, that one rocks. The first time I heard it, I knew at once that Robbie Robertson played the guitar, though I hadn't read about it anywhere, he has a very special style.
