Led Zep stunk in 73, the sound was horrendous, songs unidentifiable til Plant start singing, the playing lacking sluggish and dependent on relentless volume, lacking real dynamics far as I recall - bombastic, and Page did 2 very long unaccompanied solos that were all flash, plus 15 minutes of Bonham on "Dick." Cleaned up for the crappy film/soundtrack (& somehow everything, really, miraculously sounds so much better on that live cd from a couple years back!), but I was a fan, thought the records brilliantly produced. Plus the most violent, stoned, and youthful audience made it all the more unsettling (I was 13) - many delighted in throwing cherry bombs from the balconies to the levels below, made the whole thing creepy. Still dig those records, Page could focus and with the best engineers in the business created powerful soundscapes.

God, I have a friend 12 years older than me who saw Hendrix at Clark University - and met him & Mitch Mitchell backstage (chatty, warm, smart, spacey)... Also he got high & chatted with Jack (who didn't chat exactly) and Jorma, then Grace of the Airplane (very potent reefer, he says) after their gig at the same University, and Kent is not inclined to brag or embellish. Would love to have seen those all time favorite bands. Also says the Jeff Beck Group - also before my time - were trememdous at the Boston Tea Party (with our Ron on phat bass, and Rod on guitar on at least 1 or 2 songs!)...Luckily, I did see Television, last tour, but wish I saw them more. Captain Beefheart is another I wish I caught live.

I did see Elvis in Vegas at the Hilton, pre overweight.

Nothing I can say, could come close to how great a performer/singer he truly was

Ladykiller, I saw Thin Lizzy with Phil. One of the few bands I,ve seen live that sounded the same as their records.

About 1969 I made a list of all the 'had to see bands" (my tastes off course, CCR, CSNY, Allman Brothers, on and on.....) and have knocked them all off pretty early, and through the late seventies and beyond found no real additions, all but for one missed original "van Morrison". I thought I had this covered with the Vancouver Stones show but of course that failed. So I'm sitting on 9th row center seats for next month with mixed feelings....what's left.

That's quite easy
- Stones with Taylor
- Stones with Jones
- New Barbarians
- x-pensive Winos

And the winner is:
AC/DC with Bon Scott

Bob Marley & The Wailers

LED ZEPPELIN

And, I have NO doubt I would be able to identify the songs prior to the vocals. Plant-Page in '95 was far closer to seeing LZ than it should have been.

ROLLING STONES w/ Mick Taylor

I guess I am lucky then. Not only did I see AC/DC with Bon Scott, but I saw them in a small club, right after the release of Let There Be Rock. Not only was it a great show, but Angus Young actually came out into the audience playing guitar and got up on our table and started jamming. Unbeleivable. Still one of my great Rock & Roll moments.

Problem with Zep was partly the hockey arena (I knew & dug the records) sound and sheer volume - loudest show ever I attended, ears rang & hurt for 3 days. Hey, I', going to go play "Presence" now....Caught Page in '88 btw.
