BV, it's not a "typo"... that term suggests that something was typed incorrectly by accident one time...

This is a mistake that they keep posting over and over... on the Stones' "official" website.

RS.com is not the ultimate source of info very often. (That honor goes to this site, most likely.)

i didn't see where BV said it was a typo, but ... that's okay!
rs.com makes mistakes. so do all the Stones lyrics sites and books.
some mistakes acquire a life of their own, and sort of take over from the original
(is Gimme Shelter a mistake or a deliberate spelling change?
how many people care that the original name of the number is Gimmie Shelter?
does it matter how rs.com spells it? or that it's totally mis-titled on the album cover?)

if memory serves in 69 Ed Sullivan announced the song as Honky Tonk Woman, so ... blame him! :E
the title (and the refrain) is still Honky Tonk Women. have some popcorn.

In the verses Mick pronounces it as HT Wooooooman, not Wimmin', so I always thought it's a single hooker: Honky Tonk Woman. Also live he mostly sings "It's a honky tonk", whereas the "a" mentiones one woman.

I must say in the end I really don't care.

yes, i posted the question last summer, i think. people seemed more able to agree on one of them, as opposed to this time around - but i can't remember which!
