Gimme some guitar bitch...
Posted by: Bärs ()
Date: January 5, 2007 19:04

...is what Keith says on this absolutely mindblowing rendition of Time is on my side from 1981 (I've forgotten which show it is). Does anyone know what he means? And who's the bitch?

The monitor mixer?

That's quite rude. So he does not hear what he is playing?

Keith gets very put out when his guitars are working the way he likes when he's in front of a crowd. I saw that at the B Stage in Glasgow. He was GLARING at his tech. If looks could kill...

Considering his vocal approach in that particular version I'm not sure the poor guitar tech was the right one for Keith to blame if something sounded strange on stage...

smile: you ever try playing/singing on a stage where you can't hear yourself?
and are you sure it's "bitch"? i'd love to know which show it is you mean, if you can locate it
or at least narrow it down a little. i *love* 81 Time Is On My Side - especially Keith's vocals -
but going through all of 'em to find this purported bitch would take quite a while.

Is it East Rutherford 11/6/81??

smile: No I haven't. Have some popcorn :/

I really can't remember what show it is since it's the only song from that show I have, and the file is titled "song 11". But really, poor Keith is struggling in every sense of the word. He simply sounds very drunk and even plays the intro wrong. But it's funny listening. Begin your search with his most drunk 1981 shows!

Excellent sound quality btw. It has been posted here a long time ago on a thread about greatest screw ups or something like that.

I found the thread:

Now I see that this same problem was discussed in the other thread. The question is does he say "Page", as suggested in the other thread, or "Bitch", which is what I hear?

I have it.......I'm fairly sure........I thought it was that East Rutherford show though because I remembered them having lots of technical problems...

uhh yes it is East Rutherford 11/6/81......I just went and listened to it. I remember thinking when I listened to this show the first time that they must have had terrible technical problems because there were screw ups on almost every song........then I was amazed to read that several songs from this show made it onto Still Life (of course that info could have been wrong). But I think it came from the Zentgraf site.

well it is disc one of that particular show......Jersey Devil is a 6 disc set though as far as I know with 3 shows on there, each show consisting of 2 discs. And this one is on the first disc of the 2nd show so should we consider this disc 3 of the Jersey Devil set? I guess.

Opus 1?

I was at Meadowlands 11/6/81. Have to say that the atmosphere that night was ELECTRIC!! Remember the crowd starting the rythmic clapping a couple of minutes before "Take the A Train" came on and when the lights went down and it did, you could not hear yourself think--lights flashing, crowd going crazy, one of those moments when you say to yourself, "There is no place on earth I would rather be then here".

After the show a local news channel stooped our group and we were all going crazy, screaming ROLLING STONES!! Shockingly enough, they didn't use us--lol

The crazy thing is saw them the following week at MSG and it was EVEN better.
