No use in trying to understand the meaning of this song
it seems that it's cut up technique.
I notice some differences in the lyrics (songbooks or others lyrics sites)
which one is correct ?

Slip rope or skip rope
insider or inside her
one last cycle or burn that cycle
pause for business or all for business
grotesque music or protest music
steaming heat on or stand that heat on
watch or wash that hat in black

Christian, it looks like your first version of each line seems the correct on. IMO. (Except the "inside her". "Sky diver inside her" is what I always thought)

and not

why would it be "kissing cut in cans"??

I think it makes some people sleep better at night to know that it is not cu*t; even though it makes no sense.

So why do both Jagger and especially Richards put emphesis on the "n" then?

Besides - that's what you're supposed to do when you go to Cannes, so this makes perfect sense.

It is 'kissing cut in cans,' in my humble opinion, because Jagger mentions the movies, close-ups and Marlene Dietrich - all relevant to film making. A 'cut' is what usually ends up on the cutting room floor, and the resultant film is then put into film 'cans.' It ties in perfectly with the previous lines.

Jagger is quoted as intentionally making the lyrics obscure a la Fats Domino in Blueberry Hill.

And on top of all this he changes the lyrics, as in the classic Tumbling Dice: 'Jewels in my frown/crown'

Nothing really to do with kissing c--t then!

have the wrong line "kissing cut in cans"
