Just a thought, Mick was called "negro" in school and clearly prefers black music to white and has stated this in interviews thru the years. He invited S Wonder onstage in 72 and performed with Preston in 75-76. Is he a whigger? I dont think so, but maybe he was in the early 60s? What d y think?

C'mon it's not a lame thread, Mick is not a typical "white" singer and he sure wasnt back in the 60s.Im glad he wasnt but I also wonder if he really wanted to be black. His image isnt really clear, sometimes female, sometimes "black" etc.

The singing is sliding into a role. Everyone has said that Jagger from very early on loved to entertain, and was uncannily adept at impressions. As a kid it might noit have been more than that. Later on more of a philosophy. Jagger might be a conservative tightwad, but his heart is where it belongs. especially in music.
Where I come from a whigger is a very derogatory term.it's not just a white guy acting black. It's all that but add "...and looking like an idiot".
I will never for get this interview by Jagger that I read because it taught me a lot about my own life. He was asked if he wanted to be black. And he was "Hell no. I am white. Why would I want to be anything that I am not?" I think that if you carry yourself this way, people respect you. even the ones who are different from you. Nobody repects someone who is trying to copy you.

I won't get into the discussion of Mick being a "whigger" - a truly insulting term to both blacks and whites.

I will get into the discussion of Mick sounding black. I read somewhere that he bit off the tip of his tongue while playing sports and it gave him more of a black sound. Ex. - "trow me down the key" instead of "throw" on the live CYHMK.

Also, he doesn't try to put on a phony "blaccent" (is this word as bad as whigger -I think not) like Justin T. or Eminem to try to sound black.

BTW, ever notice how much John Mellencamp tries to move/look like James Brown. Even the hair.

first thought this was just another: does (insert band members name) wear a wig ?

I don't think CNN will air Mellencamp's funeral,though.
