Hey! Did you forget the "Rain Fall Down"-experience in Bergen?
BTW: You look great in the new furniture commercial on TV! Looking forward to seeing the entire campaign. And have a safe journey to Africa!

It's a draw between three: Bangalore 2003, Longchamps 1995 and Bergen Sept 1st 2006. All great shows, though! And the rein felt really nice and lukewarm in as different places as India, France and Norway... Must have been the band! They were HOT.

I have never seen them in bad weather but it always impresses the hell out of me when I read about these bad weather shows. The band and the audience both impress me.

Concerts in the rain suck, but concerts that take place in beerfree venues in two-bit cowtowns that don't have proper access roads and are interrupted by bomb threats suck even worse. I've dealt with rain, but Charlottesville '05 was worse than rain, notwithstanding that the Stones rose to the occasion!

don't know what is worse for a band - performing in extreme heat, or rain ?

The Melbourne '73 shows were played in 40 degree heat.
The Brisbane show from '73 was played in rain...and storms.

Wasn't there a lot of rain in Adelaide too?
And a flood of ping pong balls in Sydney.

Cologne 1999 was tough, it rained for hours before the show, and when the show started it kept on raining for about an hour. Ronnie was in extremely bad condition that night, but the others were on fire, the show was impressing, maybe the rain helped creating a special atmosphere. There was a G8 meeting in Cologne that day, Keith's comment was:" That's what happens when you have presidents arriving. We cannot fight them".

The Sept 06 Louisville show was pretty rainy, but I must admit, the crowd (and the Stones) held it all together nicely! Terrific show indeed.

I think the band would say Chicago (Soldier Field) ) Oct 2006.
Harsh cold & wind makes it very difficult to play guitar.
I agree with the guy that said it looked like KR had a stroke.

I was there. It was frigid. Not as uncomfortable for fans.
We could wear layers and layers of clothing and gloves etc....

...and I think i saw a snowflake or two.

Yeah, but that was outside the venue. I remember it well, I got a cold after that, and had a fever for two days after.
Bergen this summer was a catastrophe when it comes to the weather. On the other hand, the sound was the most excellent I think I ever heard at a Stonesconcert.

I saw them play one rainy Wednesday night at Giants stadium in NJ.

And it was a good show!

The Stones were just as wet as the crowd. It seemed like they were giving something extra... in solidiarity w/ the crowd while we were braving the rain.

BtoB, I think it was. I had seen them there only three nights earlier, on Sunday night, and the sound from ourt seats was ruined by a dreaded concrete overhang. On wednesday eve, I had guessed correctly -- that I'd easily score a cheap ticket on a weeknight in the rain.

I think I read somewhere that Keith himself named that concert as memorable.

While not nearly as cold as reports of Soldier Field ‘06 (I was not there) but I did see the Stones at Jack Kent Cooke stadium in Maryland on 10/23/97 and damn near froze my ass off. Temps were in the low 30’s I believe and I was not dressed for it wearing a Voodoo Lounge t-shirt and thin jeans jacket. Quite a sight seeing all the Stones wearing either long coats (Keith) or ski jackets (Ronnie). If it was any other band I would have left (after some serious gusts of wind ripped through the upper deck where I was standing) WAY early but to their credit the boys still put on one heck of a show

Longchamps was very wet but as it was hot it wasnt a totally unpleasant experience

Sheffield in '99 was pretty rotten. Thankfully I was in the safe confines of the stand that night and only got drenched going to and from the gig.

Longchamps, isn't there a horse racetrack by the same name in Paris? Is that where they played?

yes. Its in the Bois du Boulogne. The two shows were basically 'field' shows however, as opposed to a stadium. The only seating was the VIP enclosure. The first day was incredibly hot - possibly the hottest day of the year. The second day was warm too, and then there was a cloudburst and it absolutely poured down for the whole show. The Stones were all wearing big dark overcoats and hats - they looked like theyd just attended the funeral of a Mafia boss.

They played the Hippodrome d'Auteuil (another racetrack) when they played Paris in 1982.

Thanks Gazza. I was just curios, because I am a big horse racing fan and I know that Longchamps is one of the most famous racetracks in Europe. But I did not know the Stones played there. Just out of curiosity,by any chance have they ever played the Ascot racetrack in England?

No..theyve never played anywhere like that in the UK. I dont think that place has ever hosted a rock concert

Michael Jackson did play at Aintree racecourse (site of the Grand National) in the late 80's however - cant think of any other major shows on UK racecourses.

Royal Ascot kind of considered hallowed grounds over there eh?

I dunno. Maybe, in some cases. I just assume that there's no need to have concerts in those places as most of them are in relatively small towns whereas every city would have a sizeable football stadium that would be more suitable.

Stereophonics were due to play a Knebworth-esque style concert,
at Chepstow Racecourse, in 2001 but due to the foot-and-mouth outbreak at the time, it had to be rescheduled for The Millenium Stadium.
