OT: Let's Go Bowling (NCAA American Football, that is)

Which is "your team"? Who are they playing in their bowl game?

I'm a Florida Gator fan and we are rightly playing The Buckeyes for the national championship. I like our chances for an upset, but am fearful of the outcome that they had against Nebraska in 1996. That was UGLY, 62-24.

Tod - I only saw the score, but what happened to the Ducks last night?? Were they big 'dogs or did they just decide not to bring it?

I know this is an international forum and more than half of the people on here could care less so I'll apologize for creating a somewhat exclusionary thread.

Well, considering I am a Stanford fan,and theonly bowl they are going to is the toilet bowl,it's all about how I can make money.2-0 so far on the bowls, but they were pretty easy. For the big game, I like Ohio St.Plus I have some friends who are from Ohio. So that is my rooting interest.

Yeah, I don't feel too good about Florida's chances. I can see Chris Leak putting up a real stinker.

However, Urban Meyer has done a great job with that program, bringing it back to real national significance post-Spurrier, and he knows a thing or two about coaching an offense, so....

Hope you make some nice dough over the next couple of weeks.

Yeah it should be a good game. I just think it's stupid that they are off 5 weeks before playing.

The Ducks made me proud. In the season of giving they were humble, contrite and in a very generous mood, especially considering the hardcore Christian opposition. It's certainly renewed my own faith. I was on my knees several times, in fact.

Are you sure this is not more suitable somewhere else?? It has nothing to do with the Stones as far as I can see. Besides, please don´t call it football. Football is what you call soccer. Really. American "football" is a form of rugby, nothing else. World series of Baseball? Yeah, if the US was all of the world, wich it is´nt...

Well, I can suck it any way you want, the facts I mentioned are still there.
Please explain to me why it should be called football, when it is´nt, and why it should be called worldseries, when, as far as I know, no one else but the US is involved.

fact this: it's football because there's a ball and feet involved. and it's the world series because we say so.

That points out the problem exactly.

the world is full of problems and the US is only responsible for maybe 98% of them.

I'll be in Mobile, AL to watch my Ohio University Bobcats take on the Eagles of Southern Mississippi.

StonesTod - I don't know where you're from but I'll assume that if it wasn't for the US you would be typing in German right now.

Goldie: we'll all be watching that much-hyped, dream Bobcat-Eagle matchup with enrapt enthusiasm!

I'm from the US and we truly suck! Cheers!

Originally there was a lot more feet involved in US football, however over the years the rules changed, but the name stayed. The word 'soccer' is derived from association football. See also [en.wikipedia.org]

Well, football was invented in Europe, so I think it´s wrong calling it soccer, and it´s wrong calling american version of rugby football....

WM, as a Georgia fan, I feel that the Gators should be playing Ohio State for the title. If they were denied, the SEC should have pulled out of the BCS, based on that and the hosing Auburn got a couple of years ago.

The SEC gets treated like a stepchild to the Big 10 and Notre Dame. It ain't right. Everybody knows the SEC is where it's at football-wise ( and more and more, basketballwise). Represent well. That said, Go Dawgs!

Goldsmith-to a fellow MAC'er, I wish your Bobcats a better performance than my NIU Huskies gave a few nights ago.

So far, 2 bowl games played and both should have been named the Toilet Bowl

Marbles - Nice to see a fellow MAC'er on this site. Joe Novak used to coach in my hometown so your Huskies have always been a favorite of mine. I wish you success this basketball season except of course, on February 10th.

StonesTod - How old are you? Judging from your posts on this thread I'll guess you're about 14.

Hey Elmo, is UGA going to beat VA Tech? It actually looks like one of the better games. Two strong southern schools that,I don't think play each other very often.

I hope/think so. But I felt the same way last year against West Virginia. Newpaper says VT has suspended 4 players. I don't know if they've ever played before. Go Dawgs!

Georgia has overcome adversity and embarrassment this year to get to their bowl game. Auburn and Ga. Tech can tell you the Dogs are back. Now--why has Georgia never had The Stones? Most of our rivals have! I know-no concerts at Sanford Stadium! Cheers y'all and Merry Christmas!

WVU (10-2), naturally. They face Georgia Tech (9-4) in the Gator Bowl on Jan 1 at 1pm ET. Let's go Mountaineers!
